HEALTH CONCERNS FORCE SCGOP CANDIDATE TO CUT CAMPAIGN SHORT

The South Carolina political community received unfortunate news today that Columbia Attorney Kevin Hall was bowing out of the State Republican Party chairman’s race due to heart-related issues.

“Over the last week, I hoped and prayed I would not have to deliver this message,” Hall wrote supporters Wednesday morning. “I am sad and deeply disappointed to let you know that, due to some recent health problems, I must withdraw as a candidate for Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.”

Hall continued, “A few weeks ago, I began to experience occasional shortness of breath and some tightness in my chest. Then on Wednesday of last week, the symptoms returned. However, this time it was obvious to me that something was seriously wrong.”

Hall said he was admitted to Providence Hospital in Columbia with chest pains and other symptoms of a heart attack.

“I stayed in the hospital a couple of days as I underwent a series of tests to determine my condition and the treatment options going forward,” Hall said.

While Hall did not suffer a heart attack, he said there “are some heart-related issues that I will have to deal with in the weeks ahead.

“Given the uncertainty in store for me and my family, we know that I have to do what I don’t want to do – step away from the campaign and leave the leadership of our party to others for the time being.”

Hall thanked his supporters for their dedication and encouraged them to continue fighting for the Republican Party.

One of Hall’s SCGOP chair rivals, Spartanburg Party Chairman Rick Beltram, expressed his “thoughts and prayers for Kevin and his family.

“We all appreciate that God, Family, and Health are the most important priorities in our worldly life,” Beltram said. “I wish Kevin the best and hope that he recovers very quickly.”

The rumors that Warren Tompkins may choose to run for SCGOP chair concern me. I know most of you recall his involvement in the 2000 Presidential Primary controversy as well as his role in the video poker debate. We can not afford that to become the image of the SCGOP. The Dems are loving the prospect.

    Tell Warren NO!!!!!
