COLUMBIA, AIKEN OPEN HYDRO FUEL STATIONS

South Carolina’s “hydrogen highway” between Aiken and Columbia is officially open for business after both cities opened hydrogen fueling stations today.

Aiken’s Sage Mill facility opened this morning in an advanced manufacturing park and will be home to the Center for Hydrogen Research’s hydrogen fueled Chevy Silverado, as well as a Kia Borrego that runs on hydrogen.

The station currently uses hydrogen fuel cell forklifts and will contribute to the development of hydrogen infrastructure in Aiken County.

Later this afternoon, the Columbia Fuel Cell Collaborative will open their hydrogen fueling station. That station is expected to serve as a hub for future hydrogen projects in South Carolina.

While these two facilities are not nearly as cool as the space-aged station pictured above from Hamburg, Germany, they are a dream come true for the four people in South Carolina with hydrogen-powered cars.

Actually, I have no idea how cool or uncool the South Carolina stations may be because I can’t find a good picture of them online. My 90-seconds worth of Google research yielded only this artist rendering… which was apparently drawn by a third grader.
