THIRD LARGEST DAILY IN DISTRICT DOESN’T KNOW CONGRESSMAN’S NAME

Rep. Gresham Barrett will have to rely heavily on support from his Congressional District if he hopes to have a shot at winning the Republican Primary for governor next year.

The problem is, folks in his district don’t seem to know who he is.

Take, for example, this headline from the third largest daily newspaper in Barrett’s district: “Garrett addresses Chamber.”

In all fairness to the Greenwood Index-Journal, Garrett is a portmanteau of “Gresham” and Barrett.” But they might as well have said “Steve addresses Chamber.”

The Index-Journal’s mistake does echo the results of two gubernatorial polls that show Garrett, err… Barrett significantly trailing his two likely opponents in name identification.

A poll conducted by Barrett’s own campaign showed he had 49 percent statewide name ID, compared to 75 percent for Attorney General Henry McMaster and 89 percent for Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer.

Much of Barrett’s name ID was supposedly in his district. However, even that is now questionable.

    A.F.

This is getting really lame. I have just one question. If Barrett is as bad as you say he is, if he has no chance like you’ve implied, then why do you keep busting on him?

It just doesn’t make sense, ya know?

I guess I will go out on a limb here and say perhaps your higher ups are concerned because Barrett is the real conservative in the race and he has the record to prove it. Gresham has earned accolades from all kinds of conservative organizations: the National Right to Life Committee, the National Taxpayers Union, the American Conservative Union, the National Rifle Association, and on and on.

You sure help his name ID by posting about him so much.
