SC UNEMPLOYMENT RATE RISES TO 10.4 PERCENT, SECOND IN US
It’s that time of the month again. No, not “that time of the month,” but instead the time where I get to post a Great Depression-era breadline photo and then write a quick story about how South Carolina’s unemployment rate has risen to new heights.
And this month, the Palmetto State’s January unemployment rate rose to an astounding 10.4 percent, giving us a jobless number second only to Michigan.
The number of unemployed in South Carolina is at 227,986, up more than 20,000 from December.
Allendale County was the hardest hit, recording a jobless rate of 23.4 percent. The lowest unemployment figure in South Carolina was 7.5 percent in Lexington County.
