SON OF LEGENDARY FMR GUV TO CHALLENGE BROWN

For the first time in two decades, the name Carroll Campbell will be on the ballot in South Carolina. Only this time, it’s the son of the legendary former governor.

Carroll “Tumpy” Campbell III announced that he will attempt to follow in his father’s footsteps by running for Congress in the First District.

Campbell told The Hill on Tuesday he will run against five-term lawmaker Henry Brown next year, saying that while he and Brown have a good relationship, Campbell worries the incumbent has lost the “fire in the belly” necessary to succeed in Washington.

“Henry Brown’s a nice guy, but the reality of it is, as much as I’d like to lay blame on the Democratic Party for putting this country in a direction I don’t certainly support, I also have to look at my friends in the Republican Party,” Campbell said Tuesday.

Prior to becoming governor, the late Campbell Jr. served four terms as the Fourth District Congressman. The younger Campbell’s brother Mike is also considering running for office next year as he weighs a second bid for lieutenant governor.

Geez…is there no new blood in the GOP?

Do we have to lose every office in the land before we realize there are more than a small handful of ego driven boobs that think they should each rule the world?

    Dman, this is getting old

Oh God no, please no way. The legacy of Carroll Campbell is best protected if these two would never show their faces in politics again.

don’t you call that neopotism, or something???
Can’t we have someone new represent the state of South Carolina?
Isn’t there anyone, anywhere, besides the same royal and elite names that keep getting thrown out there?
Doesn’t the other Campbell know the people of this state have REJECTED him????

I can understand the current responses if your politics lean left, however anyone who is truthful and knows their SC history, knows that Gov Campbell was the most productive, progressive governor in modern history. In fact, he really did bring ‘change’ to SC government by actually working with Republicans and Democrats to accomplish things for this state, like government restructuring and true economic development (jobs). If Campbell, III is anywhere near the man his father was, he’d probably be a great representative.
