NRO COLUMNIST BLAMES SC ‘RINO’ CONSULTANT FOR DOWNFALL OF REPUBLICAN PARTY

Republicans who are angry about the demise of their party need look no further than South Carolina political consultant Warren Tompkins.

That’s according to National Review columnist Deroy Murdock, who published an editorial today lambasting the “Republican In Name Only” for helping “drive the party into a ravine.”

Conservatives argue that his good fortune has come at the expense of their beliefs, and that he has enriched himself through insider’s deals and arrangements that subvert limited government. [...]

School-choice activists consider Tompkins a hurdle to their goals of expanding learning options for parents and children. “Tompkins has been unfriendly to the idea of school choice — absolutely,” says one Palmetto State political insider who requested anonymity. “I don’t know if he personally is against it, or if it’s just the people who pay his bills. In any state GOP primary, the candidate for whom he consults typically is the anti-choice candidate. That would be a very fair statement to make.”

Tompkins’s critics cite his longtime support for such liberal Republicans as former state legislators Bill Cotty and Adam Taylor. “None of them have ever met a spending increase they didn’t like, and all are violently opposed to long overdue, market-based reforms to our state’s last-in-the-nation public school system,” a local online commentator wrote in 2006.

“In the 2006 primary, there were two GOP candidates for state superintendent of education,” explained one well-placed Republican source. “Tompkins’s candidate was Bob Staton. He was decidedly pro-establishment, anti-choice, and he ended up losing to an upstate South Carolina businesswoman named Karen Floyd. She ended up losing in the general election” to Democrat Jim Rex. [...]

Tompkins represented Competitive Insurance Group LLC, formerly the Thomas Brown Agency. Despite its name, CIG enjoyed a lucrative, no-bid government contract for covering state property against wind damage between 1988 and 2007. Governor Sanford and GOP state senator Murrell Smith fought to open the contract to bidding. They succeeded, saving taxpayers at least $2 million annually.

Murdock also brought up the whole “Phoney Fred” thing, but apparently didn’t have enough room to mention stuff like this, this, and this.

Either way, I’m just glad to see that other folks are beginning to give Tompkins and crew their just reward. From there, it’s only a metter of time before the de facto exorcism begins.

Your quote in that National Review story is pretty clever. Good job buddy! You’re right: Jim DeMint is no RINO. You forgot to mention that he ain’t effective as a senator either. There’s no amount of grandstanding he can do on the Senate floor – about absolutely ridiculous issues – that can make up for his ineffectiveness. The people of this state are hurting. They are out of work. And they deserve better than Jim DeMint (and Mark Sanford) grandstanding while their (washed-up) hack political allies (and operatives) play pissing contests around the state.

Are you aware that the first Progressive was Teddy Roosevelt who claim to be a Republican in Drag. After that he change into a Bull Moose Progressive which really confuse the voters and the Indians who were still left at Little Big Horn after Custer got his clock clean as a Progressive Liberal Carvalry Officer. No doubt you have never heard of the Left or Right Political Progressive Party which claims to be the modern day Republican and Democrat party or better known as the Communist Bankers Party of the United States. Do you really believe that peace and paradise has arrive with President Obama walking on water with zillions of paper 100 dollar federal reserve notes or currency to secure your future on this planet?

Tompkins got his start with Carroll Campbell in the 1980s. He was instrumental in getting many Democrat officeholders to switch to the GOP, thus the RINO lining on the SCGOP cloud. Warren’s main problem is his deep connections to the Richland County GOP and the “progressive Republicans” at the core. Well, not all Richland GOPers were RINOs back then, but there was a vicious RINO core, if you get my drift.
