Dr. Brent Nelsen

DR. SOMETHING OR OTHER TO FILE GUBERNATORIAL CAMPAIGN TOMORROW

When I was told last month that some guy who teaches politics at Furman University was “weighing a run for governor,” I laughed. Then I wrote a post saying that I laughed.

I figured that would be the end of it and this fellah would retreat back into academia and maybe make a State House or Senate run in a few years. But apparently he was being serious about running for governor.

Brent Nelsen says he’ll file paperwork Friday to set up his Nelsen for Governor Committee. The only other candidate to open up shop for the office in 2010 is Democrat Vincent Sheheen.

Nelsen’s campaign says he’ll launch his bid with a tour around the state talking with groups about creating jobs and developing the state’s economy. The campaign says those summits will bring in
economists as well as government and business leaders. [AP]

I think more people in South Carolina have heard of my pinky toe than Brent Nelsen. So I’ve gone ahead and added a poll after the break to find out who has more statewide name ID: Brent Nelsen or my pinky toe. Granted, this is my Website, which should automatically give my pinky toe the advantage. But Nelsen is going to have to overcome a much greater disadvantage than that to become governor.

*** POLL ***

    ~Governor Pinkytoe~

It has a certain appeal for those of us willing to try anything. Don’t listen to the haters.

This is the first candidate to actually get me excited about this race! I’ve watched Brent Nelsen on WYFF for a while now and have found him to be insightful, but more so, in my conversations with him at gatherings in the Upstate he has proved himself to be a man of ideas, solutions, and expertise to deal with this economic and job crisis the state is facing. Let’s go Brent! http/www.brentnelsen.com

I know Brent Nelsen. He is an elder in my church and a man of integrity and leadership. He is well respected by even his opponents (politically) at Furman University. I don’t want to lose him as a neighbor in the upstate and I’m not sure I would ever wish Columbia on anyone. But Brent has a passion to take his work ethic and vision for good government to the place it can best be used. And in SC — that’s Columbia. Maybe an “unknown” in SC is exactly what we need.
