CHARLESTON SENATOR TRIES TO RIP ON SANFORD IN LA TIMES, FAILS

When you’re a member of the South Carolina General Assembly, few people expect you to be a Rhodes Scholar or anything — although there are allegedly six legislators who are members of Mensa.

An understanding of the basics of the English language, however, is preferred when you are creating the laws which guide an entire state. Of course, for some folks like Sen. Robert Ford (D-Charleston), even that is a bit too much to ask.

Over the weekend, Ford gave this gem to the LA Times, one of America’s largest newspapers while attempting to attack Gov. Mark Sanford:

“I think our governor would make an interesting college professor,” Ford said. “I think he’s psyched himself out that he’s Mr. Intellectual. . . . He don’t understand that he represents one of the poorest states, and neediest states, in the union.” [emphasis added]

I know I pick on Ford a lot — and I know no one is prefect except for me — but, come on. It’s one thing to talk like that to friends or constituents, but not to a newspaper. Especially not to a newspaper as widely-read as the LA Times and especially not when you’re ironically pointing out that someone “don’t understand” something. Seriously… what is it with South Carolina politicians and bonehead statements lately?

Foges don’t understand — we are all guilty!

We forget that they [non-Southerners] aren’t hip to the fact that this is just a bad HABIT.

And we need to all pinky-promise to only talk this way amongst ourselves.

“…and I know no one is prefect except for me…”

Do you actually wear a clown costume to the office?

When was the last time you listened to Henry McMaster talk? He’s way worse than this Ford quote.
