OBAMA SAYS SPENDING PACKAGE WILL ‘CREATE’ THOUSANDS OF SC JOBS, GOP PLAN WOULD HAVE CREATED MORE FOR LESS
The loyal South Carolina apologists for President Barack Obama were cranking out the pro-bailout talking points yesterday as their man signed into law a spending package that will inevitably hamstring generations of Americans with an $8.5 trillion price tag.
Most notably, the good little liberals at the Indigo Journal lauded a White House report that the Democrats’ massive “stimulus” legislation will “create” 50,000 jobs in South Carolina. Which, on its surface, sounds like a great thing.
But there are number of significant problems with that number that the Democrat spinsters failed to address in any way, shape or form.
To begin, the White House report said absolutely nothing about the jobs other than the fact that “90 percent [will be] in the private sector.”
So right off the bat, they’re down to 45,000 jobs “created,” because — let’s face it — the 10 percent of those jobs that are government jobs will sit on some obscure listing somewhere and never get filled.
Of those 45,000 jobs left, how many are are actually “new” — as in Obama’s bill actually created them, rather than just saved them? The report sure as hell disn’t mention it and when asked on Twitter, the Indigo Journal folks couldn’t come up with an answer, either.
I’ll go ahead and assume that at least half (probably more) of the jobs Obama “created” are really just jobs that won’t be lost. That means only about 22,500 of those jobs were actually “created.”
The report also didn’t say how many of the jobs are “shovel-ready” — meaning they’ll be immediately available rather than opening up years from now. Further, how many are long-term jobs?
Since the White House didn’t say, I’ll figure that leaves only about 10,000 or so long-term, shovel-ready, jobs that will be created by the Obama spending package. That’s still probably a bit generous.
Of course, each person in America must pay $27,599 in order to fund the package. So — assuming Obama actually did create 50,000 jobs — that means that for every $2.3 million that South Carolina taxpayers put into paying for the spending package, the state gets one job. ONE STINKING JOB… that’s it.
But you also have to take into account that there are 207,171 unemployed people in South Carolina. So even 50,000 of those $2.3 million jobs only puts 24 percent of the unemployed to work. Again, that’s assuming Obama created 50,000 jobs.
But that’s not even the worst part.
If you apply the same economic model that the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers Dr. Christina Romer used to come up with Obama’s numbers, the House Republican plan would have created 88,000 jobs in South Carolina. That’s nearly two times as many jobs as the Democrats are bragging about.
On top of that, the GOP plan was 50 percent cheaper than the bill Obama signed yesterday.
So, if we are all playing by the same rules, the Democrat plan will cost twice as much while doing only half as much as the Republican alternative. Of course, as we all know, the Democrats are making up the rules as they go.

Where are the details and figures on the republican plan? Your link to your own story is worthless.
I had no idea that South Carolina had that many people looking for work? One thought that South Carolina was nothing but the twin sister of Sara Palin Alaska paradise.

since when is jobs.sc.gov “some obscure listing somewhere”
I gotta say I pretty much stopped reading there since you’re obviously just making stuff up. Although, it is funny to read a conservative point of view every day. We all had to put up with George’s bullshit for 8 years so if the only conservative stuff I have to put up with is your blog, I’m happy.
Once again the 8.5 trillion price tag for the stimulus is totally bogus a number you made up. You’ve just moved from mistake to lie. As far as the Republicans ability to stimulate the economy and create jobs one need only ask the average guy, “are you better off now than you were 8 years ago?”.
Well, the Indigo Journal is hardly a source about which to get upset. Those children have drunk the kool-aid and think it’s a fine wine. When quoting the 50K jobs figure, they cited White House stats! Duh! Ask IJ to list those 50k jobs. Ask IJ to show what each – or half – or a quarter – or ONE of the pays. Ask how many are permanent or just grant temporary. IJ can’t because the White House can’t. IJ is a tool – in every derogatory sense of the word.
Your “analysis” of the democratic plan is laughable. You take the number of jobs, then you “assume” that they are actually something else, then you degrade that number that YOU MADE UP YOURSELF. That is the definition of the Straw Man Argument fallacy.
You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts.

True! But Republican money consultant to Alaska and South Carolina [ Joe The Plumber] is on top of the job and predicts that the Republican Paradise with be complete in the year 2039 or after Jesus returns
Perhaps back then we still had a memory of a better time to keep us hoping that it would come around again, sometime. ,
