‘I DON’T SEE WHAT IT GETS AT THIS POINT,’ SAYS GOVERNOR ON FNC

While appearing on FOX News Channel’s “At Large” with Geraldo Rivera last night, Gov. Mark Sanford said he doesn’t believe that Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott should prosecute Michael Phelps for the Olympic champion’s marijuana-related escapades in South Carolina last November.

At the end of a segment about the Obama Administration’s $827 billion economic spending plan, Rivera ambushed Sanford by asking, “What’s going on with Phelps and the sheriff in your state capital saying that he’s going to let loose his detectives to investigate whether or not to prosecute this fine young man?”

A surprised Sanford froze up and stumbled to mutter out a dodgy response, before Rivera, backed by his “legal team,” asked again, “Do you think there should be a criminal investigation of Phelps in South Carolina?”

The unprepared governor continued to struggle for an answer before Rivera again pressed, “So are you saying yes, he should be prosecuted?”

Replied Sanford to cheers from Rivera, “I’m saying the reverse. I mean, I don’t see what it gets at this point.”

Shucks! I was looking forward to local officials doing endorsements for guns, handcuffs, billy clubs and electric chairs.
