168 MEMBERS OF COMMITTEE WILL ELECT CHAIRMAN
One of the nastiest, most drawn-out, expensive races to head the Republican National Committee ever is almost over. Within the hour, the 168 members of the RNC will vote for the chairman at the Winter Meeting in Washington, DC.
South Carolina’s own Katon Dawson is among the six candidates running. Joining him are current Chairman Mike Duncan, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis, former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, and former Tennessee GOP Chairman Chip Saltsman.
I couldn’t make it up to DC for the event, but my well-placed sources will be bringing you minute by minute updates in the live blog below the jump (cross-posted on YourRNC.com). So keep refreshing the page and you’ll know exactly what’s going on as it happens.
4:04 – Michael Steele has been elected RNC Chair, 91-77.
3:45 – Anuzis has dropped out. Down to Steele and Dawson. Final ballot coming up.

10:36 – Session has come to order and all six candidates are in the room.

I know he’s not your guy Adam, but this is still good news. Steele is smart and charismatic and he’ll be a great national representative of the party. Much as I don’t want to admit it, we do need to not have a southern accent on the national stage. Too much baggage right now.
I wish him the best.
Dyn-o-mite. Now Republicans have their own magic negro. This is where Sanford’s Soul Plane can really pay off.
Imagine the terrible PR situation the Republicans would have found themselves in if their party chairman was the guy who just left the White-only country club? Steele might not be the conservative hero Republicans wanted, but the party dodged a huge bullet here.
I think his speech at the convention proved he can energize the party people, I just watched it on youtube, and I don’t know about his fundraising but I will guess that is a big part of it. Adam, ask the live blogger that was there what went on when the others were dropping out, I’m dying to know…apologies for the conversational posting.
Katon is an idot.
Fogs, Sooooo sorry to hear your man didn’t bring it home. Ok, so I lied. I am worried that you just lost have of your article topics. Now, instead of iheartdawsonandmcmaster.com, I guess you will have to devote all your time to mcmaster. I wouldn’t be disappointed if he meets the same fate as Dawson. It’s time for some true conservatives to head the ship bud. I wouldn’t mind starting with Haley as Treasurer, Barrett as Governor, and Gowdy as AG.
Does anyone remember when Dawson and company were dissing Henry Mac, back when the Macdude was state GOP chair?
Now they’re in love, or at least Fogle wanted to play matchmaker. Awwww – how sweet.
