REX CALLS FOR MASSIVE TAX INCREASE TO FUND BUREAUCRATIC MACHINE… SAYS ‘SYSTEM’ NEEDS OVERHAUL
South Carolina Schools Superintendent Jim Rex today said he wants the state legislature to pump another $74 million into our failing public schools, which already receive more funding per pupil than almost every state in the country.
In typical liberal fashion, Rex said he wants to pay for this by raising taxes… during an economic crisis. In even more typical hypocritical fashion, he blamed “the system” and said “the system” needs a complete overhaul. That “system,” of course, doesn’t include the massive bureaucratic monster he has created at the State Department of Education.
The process of reforming taxation and school funding should be determined now, so that they’re in place when the economy makes a comeback, Rex said during a conference call Wednesday and in a press release.
While “we don’t expect new money until the system is put in place,” he said, the superintendent still will seek $74 million from the legislature to serve all four-year-olds who are consider at risk.
“We’ll identify funding sources to fund that program,” Rex said. [...]
South Carolinians for Responsible Government, an organization that has pursued vouchers or tuition tax credits for parents and private schools, immediately labeled Rex’s proposal as a call for a statewide property tax. [Aiken Standard]
It seems like every damn Democrat in South Carolina wants to solve our problems by throwing money at them. Not that this is surprising or anything, but it’s really starting to get old.
First, it’s Congressman James Clyburn dumping $3.2 billion worth of pork into our lap that he says will somehow magically stimulate the economy through a series of low-income energy assistance and mass transit programs.
Now Rex has decided he wants more money too. But only Rex had the cajones to call for a tax increase while South Carolinians are struggling to keep their jobs and their homes and put food on the table.
Is this honestly the Democrat-style “hope and change” America voted for? Because, if so, I really don’t get it.

Adam Fogle, SC teachers, their parents and relatives plus sympathetic Democrats elected Rex because he is a SC Education insider. How could we realistically expect better analysis of our severe plight from him?
We certainly do not need another parasitic lawyer in the top education post, either. Who might work better? A business-like approach.
Are you familiar with the professional work ethic in India? Seems to me SC has a talented representative with the same background now serving in our statehouse.
