GROSECLOSE RESIGNS AS SC PORTS AUTHORITY PRESIDENT, CEO, HASSELL ASSUMES INTERIM POST

The President & CEO of the South Carolina State Ports Authority is stepping down, The Palmetto Scoop has learned, a move that signifies the agency’s reform-minded transformation.

Bernie Groseclose has resigned as president effective immediately after 12 years in the role. Current Secretary of the Board of Directors John Hassell will serve as the interim president until a permanent replacement is found.

Board member Bill Stern will reportedly head a national search to find Groseclose’s successor.

Groseclose joined the Ports Authority in 1985 after a six year stint with aviation giant Rockwell International. He became president in 1997.

Hassell, who lives in Charleston, is seen by many as a well-suited pick for the interim role because of his previous business experience in dealing with port-related issues.

This may seem nit-picky, but isn’t he known as Bernie, not Ernie?

Yes, indeed, Hassell was a “consultant” to SSA for years.

Then “consultant” to Maritime Association and finally scrounged a job out of it.

The saying is, “If you cannot do, then teach. If you cannot teach, then consult.”

While at the SPA Hassell was known as the “fetch the donut” guy who also made coffee for Executive Director Don Welch.

This is a humorless guy who has never been seen to smile or laugh.

The SPA board is right back in the groove, replacing tweedle-dee with tweedle dum.

Isn’t South Carolina’s port the last state owned port in America?

The International Longshoremen’s Association destoyed the Maersk deal, what will happen when Obama’s union buddies are emboldened with his anti-business support? Dubai will be running the port in Charleston, or some other foreign operation. Disgusting.
