TWO HOUSTON GANG MEMBERS EXTRADITED TO LEXINGTON COUNTY, FEDS LOOKING FOR THIRD
It’s no secret that there has been a rise in gang activity in the Palmetto State, but it’s usually just local thugs trying to be bad-asses. But not anymore.
A pair of gang members from Houston are being extradited to South Carolina for the Nov. 2 fatal shooting of a 51-year-old West Columbia man. The gang? MS-13.
Josue Otoneil “Bicho” Benitez, 20, and Martin Frias “Chapin” Teran, 34, were brought to the Lexington County Detention Center at 9:50 p.m. on Monday. Benitez and Teran are members of the MS-13 criminal street gang who illegally entered the United States from Honduras.
They are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings. The 11th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office has not yet scheduled bond hearings.
Benitez and Teran are scheduled for their first appearance hearings at 3 p.m. on Dec. 16. During the hearings, a Lexington County magistrate will formally advise Benitez and Teran that they are charged with murder.
Detectives are also seeking to locate and ultimately extradite a third man, Juan Pedroza “Gordo” Carillo, 40, believed to be in Mexico, in connection with the Nov. 2 murder. Carillo is also a member of the MS-13 criminal street gang in Houston. Carillo illegally entered the United States from Mexico and has since returned. [Right Side News]
I’ll admit, I put my gang days behind me after I was busted by the feds for a whole bunch of hardcore things (I got out early for good behavior), so I haven’t really been keeping up with the streets. But holy crap… MS-13? That’s big time, esé.
According to my crack research on Wikipedia, “MS-13 criminal activities include drug smuggling and sales, black market gun sales, human trafficking, auto thefts, home invasions, assaults on law enforcement officials, and contract killing.”
Human trafficking and contract killing? Assaults on law enforcement officials? That isn’t exactly small-time drug dealing and prostitution.
Only a few weeks after the West Columbia murder, a member of MS-13 was convicted of murdering another gang member during an initiation. An initiation!
Anyway, Wikipedia tells me that these guys — an estimated 50,000 strong, by the way — cover themselves in tattoos that include “MS”, “Salvatrucha,” and the “Devil Horns,” use hand signs like the “devil’s head” (formed by extending the index and little fingers of the hand while tucking in the middle and ring fingers with the thumb) to identify themselves. So, if you see any of that, run like hell.

I agree with John, but don’t want to be silly. Of course, gangs ,bad gangs are here. Everything else under the sun is in or very close around Columbia too. Don’t be ignorant ya’ll…….

MS-13 is as bad as they get. Roughest band of illegal aliens in the country. And yes, murder is part of the initiation to the gang – ALWAYS. They only want stone-cold killers.
