HOUSE MAJORITY WHIP WANTS TO FUNNEL BAILOUT MONEY INTO SC

South Carolina’s King of Pork, Congressman James Clyburn, has never seen an earmark that didn’t make him salivate. In fact, I don’t think he drools over good food, hot women or fancy cars like most men, but rather the thought of wasting copious amounts of taxpayer dollars.

So — surprise, surprise — now that the federal government has decided to hand out trillions of dollars worth of public money to a select few failed companies, Clyburn wants to make sure his cronies in the Palmetto State get theirs.

“We ought to make it possible for the money to be there for the governor if he has the vision to use it on behalf of the people who he should be representing,” Clyburn, D-S.C., said Thursday from in a telephone interview from his Washington office.

“But if he does not have the vision to use it, then we ought to have in this legislation mechanisms by which cities and counties and councils of government and other public-private entities can access this money if it goes against he grain of the governor’s political sensibilities.” [AP]

Gov. Mark Sanford, of course, doesn’t want the money because it is a complete misuse of the people’s money during one of the worst economic crises in American history. Well, that, and he can use it to play political football. Either way, I just hope Clyburn throws me a few bucks in this whole thing. I’m looking to buy a new car and who better to pay for it than taxpayers? I think I’d like a boat too.

This is perhaps one of the strangest stories of the year. Clyburn wants to pump $$$ into a state where the governor is doing quite nicely for himself, so he thinks the people of the state don’t need help……
Do we all need to pray about our government or what?
