AIKEN ACTIVIST ARRESTED IN HOUSE DISTRICT 81 ROBOCALL CASE

The culprit behind the mysterious House District 81 race robocalls just prior to the June 10 Republican primary has apparently been busted.

State Law Enforcement Division agents arrested Aiken County GOP treasurer Ginny Allen for allegedly orchestrating automated calls in the days leading up to the election that falsely indicated they were from State Sen. Greg Ryberg. The calls attacked outgoing Rep. Skipper Perry while endorsing candidate Scott Singer — a ploy to harm Singer, who ended up losing to Tom Young in a run-off two weeks later.

The calls showed Ryberg’s business office number as the origin of the calls, but Ryberg said he did not pay for, place or authorize them, denying any connection to the “robo calls.”

Allen is charged with six counts of unlawful use of a telephone.

She was booked at the Aiken County detention center and released on her own personal recognizance.

State agents will be releasing arrest warrants today, according to officials. [Aiken Standard]

You may remember Allen from such esteemed activities as the time she sent an email to the Chair of South Carolina Gay and Lesbian Pride Movement calling her a “dike” while working for then-Congressman Jim DeMint’s U.S. Senate campaign.

There’s also her rumored involvement in the Kaolin Kronicle blog, which nearly landed itself in legal trouble last year for “stealing material from EdgefieldDaily.com, changing the content of a story, and publishing it as if it was reported on EdgefieldDaily.com.”

Oh, and she’s also tight with the villainous consulting duo of Warren Tompkins and Terry Sullivan… need I say more.

You might have also noticed that I have chosen to go with a stock image for the banner picture rather than Allen’s mugshot. Click below to find out why.

    Hey Sherlock,

    You apparently left out the fact that the illegal call engineered by Allen endorsed Scott Singer, an RQ&A candidate and negatively impacted Greg Ryberg, a long time RQ&A adversary… Seems like you and your employer had the most to gain from the illegal activity. Its a real shame you lost to that “villainous consulting duo” again… oh and if you ever checked out her blog, the Kaolin Kronicle, you know that she may be the only human being who hates that “duo” as much as your bosses.

    PS please get your Shaytt together before u scoop something.Jenny is only taking the fall for gutless weasels.These calls were made to help Rino Singer and Ryberg but as mom always said lay with dogs wake up with fleas.Scott Singer lost on his on sorry account these calls did nothing to hurt him Singer hurt Singer people saw through his BS.Mrs Allen did not email the gay/les president it was a local person at the Aiken recreation department so please get your story correct.Maybe the weaselsfrom Burnettown,Jackson,Columbia,and Hamburg will all step up and face the music like Mrs.Allen but probably not because they are gutless.Also she is not tied to Warren or Terry so incorect on that point.What she did was wrong but she is not the only one.My whole point in this is at the end of the day the political arena has lost a very smart strageist who made a bad choice.

    Also it should be noted that robo calls in general are illegal in SC.

    Here is my post on this issue –> http://www.stoppoliticalcalls.org/ht/d/DoSurvey/i/32317

    Here is the code:

    This SC Statute specifically states:

    SECTION 16-17-446. Regulation of automatically dialed announcing device (ADAD).

    (A) “Adad” means an automatically dialed announcing device which delivers a recorded message without assistance by a live operator for the purpose of making an unsolicited consumer telephone call as defined in Section 16-17-445(A)(3). Adad calls include automatically announced calls of a political nature including, but not limited to, calls relating to political campaigns.

    (B) Adad calls are prohibited except:

    (1) in response to an express request of the person called;

    (2) when primarily connected with an existing debt or contract, payment or performance of which has not been completed at the time of the call;

    (3) in response to a person with whom the telephone solicitor has an existing business relationship or has had a previous business relationship.

    Watson — Before endorsing Singer, the calls blasted Rep. Skipper Perry, who is basically a rock star in that district. Singer was thus portrayed as being anti-Perry, ergo hurting him immensely with Perry’s supporters. If anyone stood to benefit from that, it was Singer’s opponent Young who — coincidentally, I’m sure — was a client of Tompkins/Sullivan.

    Orange — To begin, it’s “Ginny” not Jenny (so maybe you should “get your Shaytt together”), and I have no doubt she’s probably “only taking the fall for gutless weasels.” There’s no way she had the means to do this herself. As for the calls helping Singer and Ryberg, see above.

    Shaun — We’ve been through this before: http://www.palmettoscoop.com/2008/09/19/partisan-democrat-threatens-sc-officials/

    Your interpretation of our laws is generally wrong, but in this case the calls Allen is accused of coordinating are undoubtedly illegal.

    Shaun Dakin- you should get your facts straight before you open your mouth. Robocalls are not illegal in any state. And robocalls aren’t just political. They are being used now by telemarketers and even bill collectors. While Allen’s so-called actions (she’s being thrown under the bus) were illegal, actual robocalls are not. Let’s think it over next time…and get rid of that website.

    Sorry to leave two comments but I just saw another comment that I must set the record straight on. Ginny Allen is NOT and NEVER WAS a part of the Kaolin Kronicle. You too should get your facts straight. Think logically…if you don’t know ALL the facts, then don’t give an opinion or open your mouth about the subject. While the Kaolin Kronicle is humorous, it is run by the same types of snakes as Ryberg and Singer. Ginny Allen will never stoop that low.

    [...] for the others involved, we may never know. But, suffice it to say, Allen does keep some rather shady company. Posted in SC Politics, Top Story [...]
