JASPER COUNTY OUTLAWS SAGGY PANTS
If you like to wear your pants around your knees to let everyone see your underwear like all the kids are doing these days, then there are now only 45 counties in South Carolina that will accept your kind.
That’s because the Jasper County Council has banned saggy pants — that is, anything that droops more than 3 inches below someone’s hips which exposes skin or undergarments.
Those who don drooping pants in public face a fine of between $25 and $500. The law will be enforced by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, municipal police officers and the Jasper County administrator.
The ordinance passed 2-1 at Monday’s meeting, with council members LeRoy Blackshear, who originally proposed it in June, and Hubert Tyler absent. [The State]
I’m glad to see the good people of Jasper County have set aside their concern for combating criminals in order to correct poor fashion statements. And good for them… I think everyone else should follow their lead because, deep down inside, we all hope for a world loaded with homicide, excessive drug use and high violent crime rates but free from exposed boxers and whale tails.
