LOOK FOR BRAND NEW WEBSITE DESIGN NEXT MONTH

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few weeks catching up on a few projects that were buried by the Nov. 4 election, battling a head cold with bottles of NyQuil, and — most importantly — working on a major redesign for The Palmetto Scoop.

I’m not talking about just changing the font size or adding some new graphics. I’m talking about something that will hopefully rival any news site in this state. We’ve already got the content, now we just need the design (and a few more reliable contributors).

But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Wrong.

With the current decay of the traditional media, it’s time for bloggers and online news sources to step up and take charge. And if TPS is going to help lead that effort, I think a fresh look is in order.

So expect TPS version 2.0 to hit your browser sometime next month.

Yo- don’t pull a FITS on us. Will Folks’ new layout sucks to the point that I don’t even fool with reading it anymore. I like to be able to come to a blog and read the stories on one page.

“rival any news site in this state” — Well, that’s not saying much.

But, seriously, the separation between “blogger” and “journalist” is rapidly decaying as we start making careers out of our Web sites. The only serious difference between the two at this point is the newsprint and a self-inflated ego.

So, congrats, on the forthcoming redesign. I look forward to it.

And, Rob, raises a good point. Have you given any thought to testing out the proposed redesign to skirt reader backlash? — I think that’s a lesson we can learn from the newsprint world.
