SENATOR VISITS THIRD GRADERS, LEARNS ABOUT GUB’MENT

Reading State Sen. Kevin Bryant’s blog will quickly teach you the value of the cliche “a picture’s worth a thousand words.”

From the time he made national headlines for posting a photo of President-elect Barack Obama comparing him to terrorist Osama bin Laden, to the absolutely amazing radio and television campaign ads, Bryant’s blog has become a reliable source of unintended humor and sardonic merriment.

So why should yesterday’s post titled “third graders get it” be any different (hint: it wasn’t)?

I was impressed by an answer I got from a third grader today as we spent the morning visiting two elementary schools in my district. I spoke to three groups of students. I asked one group if they would like it if we passed a law requiring the government to provide every kid with all the toys they wanted. They enthusiastically cheered that idea. I then informed them that the government could provide this service, but taxes would need to be raised in order to pay for the toys. I could see the enthusiasm dwindle very quickly. One young man raised his hand to comment. I called on him and he hit the nail on the head. He told me he wouldn’t like that idea because his parents wouldn’t have any more money. How ‘bout that! They understand the basis of just about every debate we have in Columbia. [Kevin Bryant, emphasis added]

The money quote at the end provides an excellent insight into Bryant’s simplistic view of the world and the problems we have with state government. When third graders “can understand the basis of just about every debate we have in Columbia,” then something is definitely not right.

But I’m glad to see Bryant’s trip to elementary school provided him an eye-opening insight into the principles of conservatism. Maybe he’ll share that insight with some of his buddies at the Statehouse.

And the two photos he provided were absolutely priceless. I can just see the teacher during play time saying, “No, Mr. Bryant, you have to share. Tommy is playing with the red fire engine right now.”

I’m sure we’ll be reading about the lesson he learned from that experience tomorrow.

What’s seen in that picture: A group of people with a higher level of maturity and intellect than Bryant’s colleagues in the Senate.

I’m still confused McFogle about overspending in the state capital. Not about the fact that it happens, but the sense of irony I read in you bitching about it. I thought RQA controlled the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse: Harrell, Cooper, McConnell, and Leatherman.

Whoa and Honcho got up earlier than I did this morning, otherwise I would have said, “If Bryant paid RQA then the headline would be, ‘Bryant talks economics to some folks who get it. Unforunately they don’t have a vote.’”

    You’re a schmuck.

Bryant’s a dolt. and if he had paid RQA his television and radio ads wouldn’t have been so 1)laughable, and 2)misleading. Actually, if he had paid anyone other than who he paid, he’d have come up with better material.

Are you talking about former Senator Bryant?
