SC House GOP elects leadership [UPDATED]

BINGHAM, BANNISTER NAMED MAJORITY LEADER, ASST. MAJORITY LEADER

Republicans in South Carolina’s State House of Representatives today elected Rep. Kenny Bingham (R-Lexington) to the post of majority leader and Rep. Bruce Bannister (R-Greenville) assistant majority leader.

And since I don’t have any good pictures of Banner Bannister, I went with a picture of his alter-ego, “The Hulk.” More precisely, a picture of a Hulk doll.

I thought of using a photo of Robert DeNiro in “Goodfellas” for Bingham, but I didn’t feel like waking up in the trunk of a car at 2 a.m. off some highway in New Jersey.

Both Bingham and Bannister were elected unanimously to lead the Republican Caucus through 2010. That isn’t very surprising given that they were announced nearly a month ago, but congratulations nonetheless.

Bingham will replace Rep. Jim Merrill (R-Charleston) and Bannister will take over for outgoing Rep. Adam Taylor (R-Laurens).

UPDATE: Looks like Rep. Harry Cato (R-Greenville), sigh, will serve as Speaker Pro Tempore. He replaces Rep. Doug Smith (R-Spartanburg).
