Dawson to announce RNC chair bid Monday

SCGOP CHAIR TO APPEAR ON FOX NEWS CHANNEL TOMORROW MORNING

The head of the South Carolina GOP will officially announce his intention to lead the Republican National Committee Monday on national television, The Palmetto Scoop has learned.

A source close to Katon Dawson said the SCGOP chair will be on the FOX News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” tomorrow morning to formally declare that he will seek the post.

“We’re going to have to start working for and talking to the taxpayers — that’s a constituency we had,” Dawson told the Washington Times Sunday. “It’s going to be up to our party to erase the confusion about what we’re for, and that is limited government, economic opportunity for all, for people who want to build a small business, work hard and create the American dream.”

A number of leading conservatives, including RedState’s Erick Erickson, believe Dawson is the favorite to win the RNC chairmanship. Dawson has reportedly been weighing the run for months.

But winning the post when the 168 members of the RNC vote on Jan. 23 is all but assured. The tough competition includes former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and former Tennessee GOP chair Chip Saltsman — the architect of Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign — among others.

  1. Dawson as national chairman and Sanford as chair of Rep governor’s conference?

Has no one on the national level looked at out State?

    The US is screwed….so screwed

  2. I’m kinda with screwed on this one. I don’t see Dawson getting the job. Michael Steele is my top pick out of the ones that have choosen to run so far.

  3. that is what we need…more of the same.
it is working so well for us…

  4. “…limited government, economic opportunity for all, for people who want to build a small business, work hard and create the American dream.”

That is more idealistic, no position, no solution, no real substance than the crap Obama got away with saying.

What is he really going to do for the party? Steele is obviously not the answer. His positions are not true conservative positions. That does not sell me on Dawson however. What is he going to do to turn our party around in reality besides reminding us of these things we all want?

Herein lies the problem. In this article, Dawson is quoted as saying its important that the next chairman prove he can win races and raise money.

Well Dawson certainly has done that here. But what has that gotten us???? A bunch of elected Republicans who don’t work together and in-fight to no avail. Have you seen what is going on between Pro-Harrell House (R)’s and Pro-Haley House (R)’s? AND then between the House/Senate (R)’s and Sanford????

We need a chairman that can do more than win races but can unify our party. When are we going to address our party concerns and redefine goals and platform in a cohesive way?

Someone explain why Dawson is qualified to do what really needs to be done.

  6. Thanks for helping me out guys! Now go find more articles about Katon to post ridiculous comments on! I’ll keep this guy from succeeding if it’s the last thing I do! (It might be, as I am old, bald, unhealthy, and have a bunch of slimy nitwits working for me.)

  7. [...] One of the rising stars of the South Carolina Republican Party is putting to rest unwarranted accusations that State GOP Chairman Katon Dawson is a racist — an unfortunate attack on Dawson, who is running for Republican National Committee chair. [...]
