CELEB SAYS COMPANIES IMPROPERLY MAINTAINED, OPERATED LEARJET THAT INJURED HIM, DJ AM, KILLED 4 OTHERS
Punk rocker Travis Barker of the band Blink-182 is suing two companies that he said were responsible for the Columbia plane crash in September that killed four and injured two including himself and DJ AM.
According to the Associated Press, Barker filed a lawsuit Friday alleging a trio of companies improperly operated and maintained the ill-fated Learjet. He is reportedly seeking more than $25,000 in damages for pain and suffering, disfigurement, loss of earnings, and medical and legal expenses.
Thelma Martin Still [the mother of Barker's bodyguard, Charles Monroe Still, who was killed in the wreck], joined Barker in the lawsuit and is suing the companies for damages including grief and sorrow, funeral expenses and loss of earnings. [...]
The lawsuit alleges that the Learjet was “defective” and faults the plane’s pilots, claiming they were improperly trained and should have tried to take off rather than continue down the runway. The jet was owned by Global Exec Aviation, a Long Beach, Calif.-based charter company.
Along with Global Exec, others named in the lawsuit are Goodyear; Toronto-based Bombardier Inc., which the suit claims was responsible for maintaining the aircraft; and two charter firms that brokered the flight, Clay Lacy Aviation Inc. and Inter Travel and Services Inc. [AP]
I don’t know how much Barker is worth and I don’t really care to look it up, but I’m guessing that $25k isn’t exactly putting him in the poor house. So I’m guessing this is merely about retribution, in which case, right on.

UPDATE: Nevermind, Barker is officially an a-hole. From an interview with E! News:
“I wouldn’t have been in the state I was in if I wasn’t in the crash,” Barker — who blames the pilots and defective equipment — tells E! News. “You know, I wouldn’t have third degree burns all over my body or be prohibited to do certain things. I can’t go swimming, I can’t do some of the things that normal people can do. I didn’t ask for that to happen.” Asked whether he thinks he will win the suit, he says, “I don’t know, I just think positive. I mean, I think so. If something goes wrong that’s not supposed to go wrong or you fall victim of it,” he adds, “I think you should be compensated.”
Oh, man, I feel so bad for him. How horrible it is for this spoiled millionaire to “not do some of the things that normal people can do” like swimming. Please, Travis, tell me what that’s like. Because I have absolutely no idea. Really, none at all.

It is appalling that onyone in this circumstance should file a lawsuit. This a-hole entered into a contract to be flown from South Carolina to California. If Goodyear made a defective tire, so what? Goodyear is a Fortune 500 company. How dare a private citizen expect a good card carrying contributor to the Republican Party to make products that won’t disintegrate; killing and maiming peasants who might have voted for Obama is so insignificant.
If the pilot(s) made bad decisions contrary to their training, no one should ever ask an impartial court to decide whether or not the insurance companies for their corporate employers should actually pay out on policies they collected premiums for. How sick of this a-hole who can never go out in the sun again, who has to daily tend to his scarring for the rest of his life, who was on morphine for many weeks for immense pain, to think AIG should forestall sending their management to the spa in Arizona
just because they issued an insurance policy covering this foreseeable problem.
Thanks for standing up for corporate criminals and insurance companies who never pay and imcompentent pilots, Mr. Fogle. It’s good to know you’re on guard defending the status quo and the monied interests of the world.
Who cares? However what is with his neck it is like three feet long… he looks like a F****** tattooed turtle girly man freak. Maybe he can get a job with the circus…
You’re right. It’s Goodyear’s fault he can’t go swimming. Poor guy.
If we cared we would wait for official NTSB report, Lear Jets have great safety reputation. Our money is on failed maintenance e.g. replacement of tires or if they can find it true something hazardous object on the runway… These folks are professionals, to think pilots wanted to die is pure stupidness. Poor or rich Mr. tattooed longneck freak will get his day in court.
YOU sir, are, as you would say, an a-hole. Travis is not in the slightest. He is actually one of the few celebrities I have met that has been willing to have conversations with his fans (and yes, there are MANY of them) and not just hurriedly sign something for them. It’s about retribution; the inability to swim and such was just venting frustration.
His injuries were extremely severe. Although I don’t care for his music that much or understand why he wanted so many tattoos, the guy almost got killed and has had a huge setback in his life. If you believe that money does not necessarily equal happiness, then don’t make a comment insinuating that it’s not a big deal that he lost a part of his life just because he has money.
