FACEBOOK GROUP LAUNCHES SUPPORTING SCGOP CHAIR’S LIKELY RNC RUN

After two disappointing elections in a row, the future of the Republican Party is up in the air. Its next leader is almost guaranteed to play a significant role in shaping its fate.

So it’s no wonder that SC GOP Chair Katon Dawson has a lot of competition in the race to become the next head of the Republican National Committee.

Big names like former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele — among many, many others — have already expressed interest. And today two more names jumped into the race as former presidential candidate Fred Thompson said he is considering running and Michigan Chair Saul Anuzis became the first to formally announce.

But that isn’t deterring Dawson’s supporters who recently launched a “Draft Katon Dawson for RNC Chair” group on the massive social networking site Facebook. As of 3 p.m., the group had more than 150 members including nearly every major politico in South Carolina.

A spokesperson for the SC Republican Party said Dawson is flattered to be mentioned as a contender for the position, but could not give further comment.

Glad to see this picking up more steam… Mr. Dawson would be a tremendous asset to the national GOP.

Wow. With Adam Fogle, GA Southern Alum ‘06, Robert Gore, Chester Senior High School ‘10, and Khloe Moore, Chester Senior High School ‘09, joining the movement, the sky is the limit.

In other exciting Facebook news, the Mustache March movement has 1,138 members and the group “Jasper Brinkley will knock the shit out of you” has 443 members. So… now you know.

The party is a mess. 9-point win, no losses in the state senate, no congressional losses despite the anti-Republican tide. Yup, one big mess bill (or is it Wes Wolfe?)

It’s great to have someone like “bill” making quality posts on TPS. Katon has made the GOP highly successful in SC. But his service stops once those guys walk into the State House. If you are unhappy with the job Republican lawmakers are doing, take it up with them. Mr. Dawson is simply getting Republicans elected, and he’s doing it very well.

Here is my issue. Someone make the case for me about why Dawson deserves this post. SC is consistently Republican. I will give you that. BUT, does our state party have ANY unity? We may be a dominate force but our Republican elected officials in the state House and Senate fight amongst each other and are so divided that they may as well be representatives of two different parties. Further, Sanford sees eye to eye with hardly none of these representatives and we constantly have a stalement on state issues. Wouldn’t it make a better case for Dawson if our state party had unified goals for current officials and our future in the state? Shouldn’t he work to first get all Republicans on the same page here is SC before we jet him off to a national post? Just having people win with an (R) behind their name is no longer going to cut it. This next RNC chair is going to have to be a leader of substance who can redefine our national agenda and ideals and unite the party. Because I have not seen Dawson’s ability to do this on a state level, I am hard pressed to advocate him on a national level.

Fogle or anyone, please, tell me why I’m wrong.

    AND, “every major politico” Fogle?

From my view of the group as of this morning, I saw Joey Millwood, a couple of past major College Republican officers, and maybe some wives and family of other officers (Beltram’s daughter).

Just what were you referring to?

    Well said JO…

It is called leadership. That is whats missing.

That the GOP wins in SC is no reason to celebrate. We could do that without the party. But the GOP exist, in the end, to serve the people. Otherwise, they are just a bunch of hacks.

    Which ,of course, they are.
