THE MAN BEHIND TPS MOST WANTED #4, LEONARDO’S NOTEBOOK
The Palmetto Scoop really stirred the liberal hornet’s nest Tuesday when I launched the “TPS Most Wanted” list of anonymous bloggers trolls. Some called the effort unethical, some called it pointless, others called it childish, and on and on.
I’m fine with that’s because, honestly, I really don’t care about the haters’ spin. The fact remains that the folks on the list aren’t “the poor little guy trying to expose the flaws in the system,” they are vindictive cowards who wish to engage in personal, false attacks while hiding in the shadows. They deserve to be outed.
And we begin today with No. 4 on the list, Mattheus Mei, who was exposed by commenter “Lee.” His real name is Matthew Butler and he is a 25-year-old University of South Carolina graduate.
Figuring him out wasn’t very hard for those who knew him, as he listed his blog “Leonardo’s Notebook” on his Facebook page. But nowhere on the blog itself or anywhere else did he state his real name. Now, he might as well.
Welcome to the world of the no-longer anonymous blogger, Matt. I promise you it’s not that bad.
So why is TPS trying to out these select few anonymous South Carolina bloggers? Why not just leave them alone?
Because there is a very significant difference between those who must conceal their identity for fear of retribution while valiantly blowing the whistle on injustice, and those who do little more than publish malicious lies, gossip and inaccuracies that are so dishonorable they would be ashamed to attached their name to it. The latter are pariahs and do a great disservice not only to bloggers, but to honest to goodness whistleblowers as well.
Some will claim, as FITSNews wrote, “if your sources are bunk (and your product is junk) then people are going to stop reading it, no matter who you are.” But that isn’t necessarily true.
Look no further than the DailyKos’s deplorable anonymous smear on vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin that dominated headlines for a week.
Then there’s the post (which I am not linking to) that spurred TPS’ so-called “witch hunt” in which I was accused of getting drunk Friday night and attacking people with my bad ass wheelchair. Both claims are false — although my wheelchair is pretty bad ass.
Beyond the moral rationale, I must point out that during my short stint in Anonymityville, everyone in the state after me trying to figure out who was behind TPS. I’m just returning the favor.
More than anything, though, as FITSNews pointed out, “it’s always fun to pull the mask off of somebody you don’t like and have a good “whoop-ti-do la-ti-da” moment at their expense. Hell, it’s even more fun to bury them completely.”

This is as opposed to publishing lies, gossip and your employer’s talking points?
Sorry that you were so blacked-out drunk that you don’t remember running over that guy’s foot. Or, maybe you’re just trying to save your job. Either way, it’s obvious that you’re just doing the “deny everything” strategy. Good luck with that.
And, Vierdsen never said you attacked the guy. You were probably so housed that you didn’t notice. He’s the one who said that it was probably on purpose.
Since when are you the final authority in charge of deciding and acting upon the difference between “valiant whistleblowing” and “dishonorable lies”?
JV – I guess that confirms Butler as your “source,” not that I’m surprised. Contrary to his previously anonymous lies, I wasn’t drunk that night and I didn’t run him over.
Not that I haven’t accidentally run people over in the past… it’s inevitable when you’re driving a motorized machine through throngs of people. Of course, you wouldn’t understand that.
As soon as I finish turning my wheelchair into a scythed chariot, though, I would be more than happy to give you and Butler a little perspective on what it’s like to be confined to a chair for the rest of your life.
Way to play the victim card. Keep lying — you all but admitted you were at the bar that night. When are you going to admit what you did? Do you really expect everyone to believe that you were at a bar at 3:50 in the morning and not drunk?
Actually Adam, my photo was available on THE STATE online when my Blog was introduced in October of 2007 and I was the “Blog of the week” — I’ve never hidden my identity, just used a psuedonym — you’re sad.
and actually — I believe that’s the picture THE STATE used too… which means you’ve turned old news into a “scoop.” SUPRISE SUPRISE!

Have I mentioned yet that you’re sad?
Ha Ha Ha!
Looks like Mattheus Mei used logic to illustrate the Palmetto Scoop’s weak reporting. M. Mei’s pseudonym was already public a year ago in The State Newspaper.
Looks like the Scoop’s “witch hunt” backfired. Please let me laugh again.
Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!
Should some start calling the Palmetto Scoop the “Palmetto Dupe?” Based upon the perceived dislike of liberal bloggers in recent posts, one just promoted a blogger whose pseudonym was already public. Now Mattheus Mei received some free promotion. Advantage goes to this liberal blogger.
Can one say, “Karma Kickback?”
With the investigative skills of the Palmetto Scoop, I suspect a future post will reveal that Mark Twain was really Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Opps! I didn’t mean to reveal that writer’s pseudonym. Should I expect an “outing” in a future blog post?
I encourage the P.S. to do some real writing that a good conservative can appreciate -something akin to The Economist or the Wall Street Journal.
Who would have suspected that a copy of Wordpress and some political connections aren’t sufficient to produce a competent journalist?
Now, seriously, enough of these shennanigans! We must return to the topic of weaponized wheelchairs!
Adam – Please stop while you are behind. You are giving the rest of us GOPers a black eye.
Matt et. al – Let me get this straight… one mention on an obscure page that is buried on a website that three or four people EVER have been to constitutes a disclosure of this information? Give me a break.
This post and the “outing” Matt Butler got is for the 4.3 million minus four people in South Carolina who didn’t somehow magically stumble upon whatever part of The State’s hidden “online community” contains the name Matt Butler and links to his blog.
Not to mention Butler replaced the part that contained his real name and subbed his pen name when he “promoted” his blog being “featured.”
And Bill, if you have any ideas on the weaponized wheelchairs, I’m all wheels…
Be careful, Fogle. We don’t need you breaking any more navivulars.
Ah, misspellings. The spice of life.
“Figuring him out wasn’t very hard for those who knew him, as he listed his blog “Leonardo’s Notebook” on his Facebook page.”
Excellent work Adam, you ‘outted’ him alright. Sounds like he was really ‘lurking in the shadows.’ Little did he know that one of the millions of people signed up for face book might actually read it!
Ha! you got’em and I bet he never even saw it coming! Great job.
(Yes, this is about as sarcastic as I can be, and this is some of the most ridiculous stuff I have ever read)
BREAKING NEWS – We have it on good authority that Earl Capps is NOT a real person. He is really an 84 year-old Nazi death camp guard in hiding, living in a trailer park near Neeses, South Carolina. Will Folks is really Bruce Willis. Adam Fogle really is Adam Fogle, and everyone he doesn’t like might be gay, but he has yet to confirm this.
maybe im missing somethign here but i looked at butlers site an im not seeing where he put his name i even tried a search. maybe i missed it but if not how then is this not new info? Sounds like the point was that butler wasnt id ing himself on his site so adam did it for him, fair enough
American principles include the ability to be and stay anonymous.
Adam –
You’re borrowing Will Folks’ rationalizations of antisocial behavior to use as your own. This is what trained therapists call “a really bad sign.”
What if a blogger uses his/own name, but happens to be (Gasp!) GAY! Adam, you should also do another “outing” list even with ascribed bloggers – that may be hiding behind a false sexual orientation. From reading your top ten list this sounds like a big motivator for you.
Go get’em sport!
Love it Adam. Anonymous bloggers are cowards.
