WEBSITE TARGETS SENATE CANDIDATE OVER ALLEGED EMAIL, BUT IS IT LEGIT?

Poor Mandy Powers Norrell. All she ever wanted to do was get her picture made with vice presidential candidate Joe Biden and show off her legs to the boys at the firehouse as part of her bid to knock off an incumbent “Republican” Senator, but instead some jerk went and created a “Mandy the Democrat” Website attacking her for being left of center.

I like to think it is because she has two last names — which really bugs the crap out of me, especially when the names clash as badly as “Powers Norrell” — but apparently it has more to do with the fact that they just don’t like her. In particular, they went after Mandy something or other for a 2004 email she and her husband allegedly wrote to someone named Patti Steen.

“We are pro-gay and pro-women, we support the ACLU, we believe Mel Gibson’s film is anti-semetic[sic] (but that’s okay, it’s just a movie),” she wrote in the email. “We don’t want publically[sic]-sponsored prayer in schools lest the Buddhists gain control of Congress. And if the Boy Scouts want to receive preferential government treatment, they should not discriminate.”

Powers Boothe supposedly went on to defend former White House hopeful John Kerry for being less liberal than herself, which automatically makes the email suspicious because nobody likes Kerry… NOBODY. Not to mention, the email just comes off as way, way, way too overtly liberal to be legitimate.

SCHotline also published the email, but questioned its origin.

I’m going to follow their lead and not judge her based on this email because I’m not entirely certain she wrote it. In fact, it’s a little too reminiscent of the phony Gloria Haskins email circulated by he opponent, soon-to-be State Rep. Wendy Nanney.

Even if Powers Norrell did send the email though, she’d still probably be a better option than her faux-publican opponent, Mick Mulvaney.

Which means folks up in Lancaster may have a mini-Linda Ketner on their hands — only without the Food Lion fortune. The difference is, Powers Norrell’s competition makes Rep. Henry Brown look like Thomas Jefferson, making this one of the very few races where a liberal Democrat might actually be a better choice than the really liberal Republican.

If only Mick paid the Quinns, then he’d be Thomas Jefferson.

Can you explain how Mulvaney, the “really liberal Republican” received an A+ rating from the Club for Growth?

  3. 3.

    Adam, I’ll take this one.

Receiving an A+ from Club for Growth is only based on if they like you or not. They could give a crap about your (lack of) legislative achievements. You seen the criteria they use to determine it? One of the things that boosts your score is if you cashed their campaign check or not.

Not really, but check out Mickey Mouse’s disclosure if you want. Be sure to cross-reference all the names with the current Board members of the (Hair) Club For Growth. Thanks for playing. Round 2 later?

Adam Fogle is full of it! Mulvaney is a conservative’s conservative. Finally – someone exposed Powers-Norrell for the true liberal she is. Thanks to whoever found this e-mail.

Sy is absolutely right. While I’m not going to go after Club for Growth because I think they generally do a great job, you have to admit that like most “scorecards,” the criteria was tailor made to put their guys at the top.

    See for yourself:

    http://www.scclubforgrowth.com/legislative/voting_records.asp

Of the 42 votes they used for both cards (21 Senate, 21 House), they included ten on appointing statewide officials, two on the supreme court election, four on the state treasurer election, and one in which the “pro-growth vote” was to create another government agency. By my count that’s at least 17 questionable votes, or nearly half.

And if you want to know why Mulvaney gets quotes around Republican, see: http://ilboondoggle.blogspot.com/

Mulvaney a liberal GOP? Are you guys serious? So the Club for Growth is wrong. How about the Palmetto Family Council? Or NFIB? or the NRA? They’ve all endorsed him. See a trend there? This is the guy who voted AGAINST taxpayer funding for the presidential primaries, and against the automatic cost-of-living increases. He co-sponsored the ultrasound bill. Voted against HPV.

Really: go find a vote of his to back any of this up.

Either he didn’t pay his tab the last time he was at the Back Porch, or somebody is paying you guys to slam him. My guess is the second. Let’s see…the trial lawyers are against him…the environmentalists are against him. Any of those sound familiar?

I cannot believe this story even appeared here…well it just shows that you can get many suprizes in the political world when you continue to read blogs that you think are on the right track most of the time. Let me tell you Adam, if Mrs. Massachusetts is elected to office then we must have Senator Kennedy or Kerry representing us.

Mandy powers is a self absorbing left wing liberal that would ruin the values of South Carolina. This email she wrote shows you she is half nuts by the second paragraph and you want her to serve the people of Lancaster and York, South Carolina?

Mrs. Powers and the Democratic Party complained about big out of state money from the National Education Association (NEA) – the biggest liberal lobby in the country. They did not object when out of state homosexual groups put 3 times as much money as did South Carolinians to defeat the Marriage Protection Amendment. But if conservatives take money from other conservatives out of state it becomes “evil outside groups attempting to highjack South Carolina government”.

Mrs. Norrell is a liberal lefty that is pro-abortion (even defending John Kerry’s vote to keep potential partial birth abortion legal) she openly opposes the marriage amendment, which was supported by over 80% of South Carolinians. She loves big Government and is a lawyer who knows nothing more then how to line her own pockets by taking advantage of every twist and turn that is available to her.

Mrs. Norrell can take liberal special interest money all day long while she and the Palmetto Scoop are asking us to dump one of South Carolina’s best legislators in the state. What-are they nuts? Can’t you tell by the second paragraph of her email that she is a left wing radical? Do we really want her to represent SC? Ask those who live in her district. We want Mick Mulvaney, who by the way is doing a great job for all of us. Mick- keep up the great work!

Lets beat these left wing radicals and tell them there is no room in South Carolina to have candidates run on their own personal agenda or Lobbyist organization like the NEA! If Mandy wants to go so far to the left I hear there is room in Massachusetts and we here in SC would love to pack her up and send her on her way with a one way ticket. Or she can stay and watch us put in a real true Conservative in the South Carolina Senate and that is Mick Mulvaney, a proud social and fiscal conservative!

Are we sure she isn’t related to Samantha Power (s)?

And I second everything Ashley Russell says. Adam, don’t be cynical, all is not lost, yet. I know that’s nearly impossible right now…still.

Mick Mulvaney a LIBERAL??????????? , and I guess Barack Obama is a pro life, pro traditional marriage, gun toting conservative? Personally I find this to be the craziezt thing I have ever seen. Quoting a Ross Shealy website to prove Mulvaney is a liberal is ludicrious and a sham to bring down true leadership in a state that has little represenatation, I find this type of reporting as bad as the Rock Hill Herald!

Mulvaney is a first term member of the House who knows nothing and cares to know nothing about state government. there are members who can tackle a crisis or problem and solve it and there are the ones that cangive speech about it. Thats Mick.

Want to know about banking regs, property insurance, workers comp ect and you will get a good speech out of Mick.

About the Club for Growth HERE THIS. Tracy Edge was the main sponsor 2 years ago of 3 of there top 6 legislative priorites (school choice, property rights and takings, and work. comp reform and they only gave him a “c”. Plus he raised thousands of dollars for them at the same time. Ask Matt why and bet he has no clue who Edge is.

Mrs. Norrell is too liberal for Lancaster and she doesn’t represent the women, nor even most of the citizens in Lancaster. She truly is two-faced and her email exposes her for what she is, a liar.

These letters that have been appearing in the Lancaster News recently, most were written by Mandy herself. The so-called Republicans that are supporting her is just a figment of her imagination. Stanley Smith was a Democrat until he ran against Mick Mulvaney for House and lost. He’s no more a true Republican/conservative than Obama is.

Of course, Mandy is supporting Obama and has been holding phone call drives from her Campaign Headquarters on Main Street, Lancaster.

The names in the CC: portion of the referenced email are well-known Lancaster Democrats and many are fellow Church members of Mandy’s. I am convinced this email is not only legitimate but only a drop in the bucket to what she truly believes.

In conclusion, Mandy Powers-Norrell does not represent Lancaster and I’m glad people are finally calling her on her lies.

“I’m going to follow their lead and not judge her based on this email because I’m not entirely certain she wrote it.”

She wrote it. Wait and see if they ever get back to the Hotline for comment. No way she will deny it. At least 100 people got this e-mail 4 years ago…and this is a small town. If she says she didn’t write it there will be a line of people at the local paper waiting to bury her on that. She’d be finished.

As I have been reading this and other blogs on this issue and there are two things that need to be said. First, on Republicans for Norrell. This is a faux group. Stanley Smith is a co-chair. Stanley is a nut and was one of the absolutely worst County Councilman in the history of Lancaster. He is NO REPUBLICAN OR CONSERVATIVE! Someone needs to check his background and look into some dealings with a gentleman named Carroll Walker on land in the Stonesboro area of Lancaster County. Two other councilman was involved and one of those were Powers- Norrell’s uncle. I’ll bet she was involved.

Second, this Senate Race is so negative and people are tired of it. I got a mailer yesterday with a ton of missleading information about Mulvaney and some of his land deals. If Norrell cant stick to the issues – and is the liar she appears to be – she damn well doesn’t need to represent us in Columbia.

Lancastermommy: “The names in the CC: portion of the referenced email are well-known Lancaster Democrats and many are fellow Church members of Mandy’s”.

I actually know a lot of these people and most of them are NOT “well-known Lancaster Democrats”. I see one name on there who I would call a “well-known Lancaster Democrat”. And I know for a fact that many of them will tell you that they are pretty darn conservative. I would check my facts if I were you. Yes, many of them are fellow church members of Mandy’s, but who says that one person’s political views reflect everyone else’s? If going to the same church as someone more liberal than me automatically makes me a liberal, I probably need to change my ballot from yesterday.
