‘OPERATION THANK YOU’ GIVES DONATED USC/CLEMSON TIX TO WAR VETERANS

No, The Palmetto Scoop doesn’t need a ticket to the big South Carolina v. LSU football game this weekend, but some very worthy folks do.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has partnered with Carolina Haven Tailgate Facility and AllSouth Federal Credit Union this year to create “Operation Thank You,” to allow veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan to attend a football game at Carolina or Clemson with Tickets donated by the fans. WVOC in Columbia has done a great job of promoting this effort and TPS would like to encourage everyone with extra tickets to PLEASE DONATE.

These men and women have served in a combat theater for Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) at least once. Some veterans have served several tours.

This is a great way to give back to our military for serving our country.

The Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC has the honor and privilege to provide health care and related social services to our nation’s veterans. We are proud to be of service to our nations heroes.

Since the beginning of the war on terrorism in 2001, approximately 4000 combat veterans have enrolled for VA medical and mental health care at the Dorn VA Medical Center and its seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Outpatient clinics are located in Anderson, Greenville, Florence, Orangeburg, Rock Hill Spartanburg and Sumter.

I can’t even begin to express what an incredibly worthy cause this is. We owe these folks our freedom, the least we can do is give them a Saturday evening enjoying some (hopefully good) football. This weekend especially as the Gamecock play perhaps the most anticipated game of the season.

If you’re going to the game, that’s fine. Enjoy yourself. But if you aren’t going and have tickets, there’s absolutely no reason to let them go to waste. So do something kind and give back to those who have served us by donating them to “Operation Thank You”.
