York County GOP HQ vandalized

THUGS TAG DOOR, BANNER WITH POLITICAL SLURS, STEAL SIGNS

In an act of vandalism that was almost certainly politically-motivated, anonymous thugs struck the York County Republican Party’s Rock Hill headquarters overnight causing roughly $500 in damages.

“Republican means slavery” was written with on the office’s outside door, while a banner in front of the building was tagged with a few illegible scribbles and presidential nominee John McCain’s eyes were whited-out. Party officials also estimated that more than 40 yard signs had been stolen.

“This was just a move of intimidation,” said Joe St. John, Catawba Regional Director for Victory. “As we all know, the Republicans actually abolished slavery.”

South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson called the acts cowardly, saying, “The destructive actions of these vandals should be taken as a sign of desperation. They clearly lack the energy, ideas and candidates to compete in this election - and are running scared.”

The office is located across the street from Winthrop University and next to the offices of the county Democrat Party vice chair and a Democrat candidate for county solicitor. Oddly, the county Democratic chairman was reportedly one of the first to come to the office and apologize for the destruction.

But Republicans vowed to press forward. “We will not use cheap political tactics to win elections,” St. John said. “Instead, we put boots on the ground, people on the phones, and win elections based on facts.”

  1. If the vandals went to school in this state, it is a miracle that they could spell “slavery” and “Republican”

  2. This is what the Democratic party supports and encourages. Thugs encouraged by thugs in high places.
We have seen this in Germany before Hitler took over and then as we all know it only got worse.
Go vote McCain and stand tall.

  3. This is only the beginning. Republicans have ruined our country and the people are angry.

  4. Unfortunately, the Republicans have a broken gauge to measure the anger at them in the nation, which includes the state of South Carolina. I wasn’t anywhere around Rock Hill thankfully but it does appear the Republicans want to make slaves of ” We the people” in order to get richer, richer, and more rich. Mr. Dawson needs to understand cowardice. Cowardice means stopping legimate investigations, and I am talking right here in South Carolina, and I am talking the Republicans stopped more than one.
It’ll all come out, and Mr. Dawson won’t be able to explain them anymore than he can understand why people broke into the Rock Hill headquarters. I understand. I do not condone, but I definitely understand.

  5. Well, since loulou, and her kind can “understand ” this then she obviously can “understand” an equal or greater response.
The Republicans have reasons to be angry as well.
Obama’s staff being populated and/or advised by three of the former TOP FANNIE MAE CROOKS as well as the attorney from Fannie Mae is certainly a concern for all us, who will be paying the bill for this debacle.
The fact that his top funding/ finance person, is Penny Pritzker who will certainly be seeking forgiveness of the personal $460,000,000 fine levied to her, by the FDIC for her role in one of the very first (2001) BANK FAILURES because of MORTGAGE BACKED SECURITIES.
Yeah Baby!!! Penny Pritzker was among the first. She has 15 years to pay this fine. An Obama adminstration and a democratic congress will be her way out of the remaining fine.
CHICAGO POLITICS GOES NATIONAL, in a big way.

Sweet Penny, will get every thing she paid for when she bought Obama.

  6. Why no post about the senate debate?

Regardless of which one you pull for it’s still a good to be informed about what they have to say.

  7. Bill - Working on getting the ETV video stream to properly embed. Fear not, I’ll have something soon.

  8. Loulou - I’m a Republican, and I can assure you that I’m not rich, nor do I seek to advance myself at the expense of others. I’m not the only one. Your mischaracterization is misinformed, prejudiced, and hateful.

I’m sure if this incident of vandalism was aimed at a predominantly-black church, NAACP office, or Democratic Party office, you’d be a little more outraged. But you seem to think it’s as justifiable to attack Republicans as some people once felt it was to attack minorities.

I understand why it happened. Hate-filled and angry people who feel intimidated and lash out. Angry because they were promised something for nothing and offered a ticket to a free ride in life, only to have it blamed on Republicans when those things never materialized.

So long as bigoted mindsets like yours exist, it’s obvious we still have a long way to go in building a truly equal, civil and tolerant society.

Go ahead and put on the bedsheets and light a cross, because your words sound so much like a Jim Crow era Klucker that it’s hard to tell the difference.

  9. not a repub not a demo but this type of junk pisses me off, its whats wrong with politics today.. demos should expect better from there people and leaders. Slavery was gotten rid of by repubs not demos, it was actually demos that liked it most. Nice quotes McFogle.,

  10. I’m a Democrat, and I’m sorry to hear about that act of vandalism. There is no lack of ugly behavior coming from both sides this year. I have seen some really cheap pathetic tricks of this nature in Anderson County coming from what I assume was the GOP side, as it has been targeted at Democratic candidates. I tend to think that the people who do things like this aren’t Republicans or Democrats. They’re just idiots.

Also, there is nothing “odd” about the York Democratic Chairman coming by to apologize. He is a gentleman and all the active York County Dems I’ve met are thoughtful, classy people.

I hope this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.

  11. It’s just grafitti. Clean it up and get on with your lives. Frequently I see vandalism done to buisnesses that do productive work yet nobody makes a big deal about that.

“Republicans freed the slaves.” Only by accident along the course of consolodating federal power; if someone deserves credit it’s the Abolitionists.

An excerpt from Lincoln’s first inaugural address:
“I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.”

  12. Bill A, evidently you don’t know your history. Not only did the Republicans freed the slaves they were also elected to office as Republican in the 1870’s. While the Democratics created to KKK to influence preach hate and promote fear to the newly freed slaves. The first black elected as the speaker of the house was Robert Brown Elliott a black Republican. So if it was an accident why were so many blacks back then were republicans. I believe the switch came about around the 1960’s when democratics began a socialist approach.

  13. Joey - I’d disagree with your assessment of York County Democrats. Some are good people, some are not. But it sounds like you’re not part of the problem.

I think this is indicative of a trend we’ve seen over the last three or four decades where rational political discourse and the ability of people to reach out and work together is melting down. Both sides now rip their party’s bridge builders apart. Look at what Democrats have done to Lieberman and Republicans to Graham.

We see a new kind of hatred in our nation’s politics. Just listen to the emotion and choice of words of a Bush-hating partisan. There’s no respectful disagreement - just anger and hatred. They don’t care about the war, except to where it’s a policy of his they can disagree with. If he chose not to go, they’d likely find words just as hateful with which to criticize him.

If we lose our ability to talk with, and work, between both sides of the political aisle and stuff like this becomes more commonplace, God help this country.

  14. Earl, lets get a coffee after this election is over.

  15. Joey - I’ve done a bit of politics in Anderson County. If that’s where you’re at, then you probably need stronger than coffee. But you’re welcome to drop me an email anytime - earl@earlcapps.org.

  16. what idiots.. don’t they realize it was the Republicans NOT the Democrats who did away with slavery.
