TEEN ARRESTED AFTER WANTING TO KILL FOR TASTE OF BLOOD
I was thinking about starting a section of The Palmetto Scoop devoted exclusively to chronicling some of the absolutely absurd stories that come out of Anderson County. Like the gas station wedding, or the road rage arrests, or the introduction of television, or the state senator who called Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama a terrorist.
The problem is, there’s already someone doing that. They’re called the Anderson Independent-Journal. And Thursday they brought us this harrowing tale from the land that the 19th Century forgot:
Anderson police delayed Thursday’s court hearing to give doctors time to evaluate an 18-year-old woman who was arrested after police said she had a butcher knife in each hand and was threatening to kill so she could taste blood.
Shawnika Davis of Fairview Gardens Apartments at 1101 Williamston Road was arrested around 11 p.m. Wednesday and faces charges of assault and battery with intent to kill and underage possession of alcohol.
A 19-year-old man, who attempted to help control Davis before police arrived, suffered two cuts to his face and one to his chest, according to a police report.
Davis, who was intoxicated and suffered cuts to her hand and knee, was treated at AnMed Health Medical Center before her transfer to Anderson City Jail and an appearance expected Friday in Anderson Municipal Court, according to the report.
After her arrest, police said Davis “kept screaming that she was going to kill everyone and wanted to taste their blood,” according to the report.
Yes, I know the girl in the banner picture has a machine gun, not a knife. and she’s white. But it’s still pretty close to what Davis probably looks like when she hits the bottle.
I blame the media. Well, everyone except the Independent-Journal, who do great work. Not only this story, but also riveting pieces like today’s “Upstate butterfly migration in full flight.” Someone gets these folks a Pulitzer Prize, already.
Anyway, this is just another reason to slam on the brakes and do whatever you must to turn your car around if you ever see that fateful “Now entering Anderson County” road sign.
