PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS RELOCATE RESOURCES TO N.C., FLA.
With the Palmetto State in the bag for Republican nominee John McCain, both presidential campaigns have decided to pull out of the state. McCain and Democrat Barack Obama sent messages to South Carolina volunteers calling on them to help out in one of two nearby battleground states.
“We need volunteers in Florida and North Carolina from now until Election Day,” the McCain campaign wrote in an email to supporters. “Can you come to Florida or North Carolina for a day, a weekend, a week, or the final 72 hours of the campaign?”
Anyone interested in “deploying” to one of the states must do so at their own expense. Volunteers can send an email to either fldeployment@johnmccain.com or ncdeployment@johnmccain.com based on their preference.
Obama also sent a letter to volunteers asking them to relocate to North Carolina where the race is much closer. But South Carolina Democrats say Obama isn’t yet ceding the state.
“[The N.C. Obama camp] is running a heavy duty campaign up there, and they need every worker they can get,” said Carol Fowler, chairwoman of the S.C. Democratic Party.
