Rob, maybe so, but like a forgotten tip, it can be less insulting to not give anything than to give a token amount, because giving nothing could mean no harm was intended or it was believed a gratuity was not required.

All in all, I guess it could have been worse. One of the two, or both, could have done a Springer and sent a bad check?

I don't see the supposed $500 that Obama donated to the party- it's not under "individual contributions" or "other committee contributions" on the FEC link you provided. Similarly, Linda Ketner is listed as having made two $1,000 personal contributions and one $5,000 contribution from her campaign to the party (not the $10,000 you claim). I must be confused- let me know where you got your numbers.

McCain isn't on the list of contributors (either committee or individual) for the Republican Party, so if you're Earl Capps, I guess that would be like running out of the brothel without paying. Not sure why presidential campaigns would be expected to give back their hard-raised dollars to state parties anyway.

"Travel grants" ... I kind of figured that when one served as a county chair or Exec Comm representative, they sort of volunteered for the role and didn't mind the modest expense that came along with serving in such a role.

Or is "travel grant" a new term for "walking around money" ... ?

The Obama campaign gave a measly $500?!? If that doesn't say "we're done with you", I don't know what does. That's kind of like trying to pay a whore with a gumball and pocket change.
