VP NOMINEE: THAT’S AN APPALLING COMMENT

In politics, it’s very difficult to be graceful when you’re the subject of nasty, personal attacks. Sure, the adage is to “turn the other cheek,” but that’s easier said than done.

Not with Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, though. She has been attacked by seemingly every liberal pundit, politician, blog and news rag. Yet she has continued on through it all and has done so with poise and dignity and taken the high road every single time.

In an interview with FOX News Channel’s Sean Hannity that aired last night, Palin was asked about a few of the particularly nasty comments that were made about her. One remark, in particular, by South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler that Palin’s “primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion,” drew a candid response from the Alaska governor.

“That’s an appalling comment,” noted Palin. “You know though, the shots that I’m taking, I know what the truth is and I know what my convictions are and my foundation is, so I’m fine there.”

Palin then used her response to focus on the issues facing America, saying, “The shots that perhaps our campaign are taking are nothing compared to the shots that some people across America are taking today, the things that really matter.

“Somebody worried about losing their house because of a Wall Street collapse, somebody worried about losing their job or being able to pay for their child’s health care coverage, or a parent perhaps having lost their son or daughter in battle — those are the shots that matter and I’m going to keep it all in perspective.”

Not only did she demonstrate the kind of class that is entirely lacking in her liberal attackers, but she also showed a tactful ability to stay focused on the campaign message and bring the discussion back to important issues.

With interviews like this, it’s no wonder Democrats are running scared and continuing to attack Palin at every possible opportunity. I would probably be nervous too.

Though, taking cheap shots at Palin probably isn’t the best way to go about offsetting that anxiety, and I think Democrats are finally starting to realize it’s doing little to help them.

I’ve never seen someone call the teachings of Jesus “cliche”. You astound me.

I’ve never seen someone be as consistently negative, vitriolic, spiteful and childish (well, except for the rest of your little gaggle of liberal bloggers) as you. You astound me.

I’m flattered, despite your lack of vocabulary.

I think Fowler’s point is that many people are enamored with Palin because she’s a poster child for the pro-life movement, and they don’t care too much about her other credentials. She probably could have said that better.

Once again, your links don’t say what you claim they do. What you link to for Dems realizing their attacks are “doing little to help them” actually is a rant on the silliness of the unfounded personal attacks on Palin (I agree secret baby stories are silly). If you’d like to have a link that discusses the success of the Dem attack, here’s your good friends at Kos, pointing out that Palin’s favorables have gone from 52% (Sep 11) to 41% (Sep 19). Her unfavorable ratings have gone from 35% (Sep 11) to 46% (Sep 19). I’d say that a ten point swing on each is decently effective. It’s not the most conciliatory post, but here’s the link if you’d like to check the numbers: http://dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/9/19/11359/9896/418/603674

Well aside from carrying all her children to term, promoting young earth creationism, trying to ban books, abusing her power as both mayor and gov, and lying, lying, lying, lying it is difficult to see anything in her past that makes her stand out as a VP choice.

Heck, I would be astounded if someone of her limited skills was selected to lead my local PTA.
