ALASKA GOVERNOR TAPPED AS GOP PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE

Republican presidential nominee John McCain has chosen 44-year-old Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a move shocking pretty much everyone in the political world.

To call the move a gamble is an understatement. It could possibly be the greatest move in American political history, or it could be one of the worst.

Palin brings youth to the ticket, and will certainly win a large number of women voters. She’s also beloved by the conservative base with and overwhelming 80 percent approval rating as governor.

For those reasons, I think this risk may end up reaping great dividends for McCain. Especially with a large chunk of former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s 18 million female voter base still weighing their options.

The official announcement will come at noon in Dayton, Ohio.
