GOLFER HARRINGTON BUYING HOME IN UPSTATE

Recent PGA Championship winner Padraig Harrington is moving to South Carolina.

The State newspaper reports the Irish golfer spent a few days with his family at the White Oak Golf and Equestrian Community and is looking for a house in the Upstate.

“It just feels like a great place to base ourselves while in North America,” the 36-year-old Irish professional said Sunday. Harrington spent last week there after winning the British Open at England’s Royal Birkdale and the PGA in less than a month.

White Oak, nine miles from I-26 and six miles from the South Carolina state line, will have an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, with nine holes scheduled for completion in October and the rest in spring 2009. Harrington will be a spokesman for the development.

The Cliffs private golf community, which blankets South Carolina’s Upstate into neighboring North Carolina, is already home to South African golfing legend Gary Player, and is likely where Harrington will choose his home.

I’m pretty sure Kevin Costner has a house at the cliffs along with Dottie Pepper. She won a couple of LPGA championships. Jack Nicklaus lives there and designed some courses.

I think that Tiger is designing a golf course for them too.

And I was born 5 miles down the road! What a great place.

You should publish the address ASAP. You can get another five or six posts out of it and maybe even another letter!
