Nice rabbit ears

BARRETT DISCUSSES INTRICACIES OF DEM NEW FANGLED TALKING PICTURE BOX CONTRAPTIONS

I can’t think of a whole lot of places where, in the year 2008, a United States Congressman would hold a town hall meeting with the sole purpose of explaining to constituents that roof-top antennas and “rabbit ears” are no longer normal nor, more importantly, feasible. If I had to guess, I suppose Pickens County would be in my top five choices — after all, it is home to Clemson University and it does border Anderson County.

So I wasn’t completely surprised to read a story in the illustrious Pickens Sentinel about Rep. Gresham Barrett briefing local citizens on how technology has evolved over the last 50 years.

Barrett met with the public to update them on the future of digital television.

“Digital is coming,” he said during a gathering at the Clemson Branch of the Pickens County Library system. “This country is one of the last countries in the word to do this.

We’re just catching up with the rest of the world.” [RITA SUE-SEABORN - Pickens Sentinel]

No Shiite, Sherlocks. But I’m kind of curious as to what those who think “digital is the future” have been for the last, hmm, two decades? Because digital was the future in 1990.

Spanish-speaking South Carolina is the future. Tank-less, wall-mounted toilets are the future. Hell, Dippin’ Dots is more futuristic than digital television.

Anyway, I’m told that after Barrett’s lengthy speech, they showed this video. Check out that electric belt!

  2. I believe Congressman Barrett would be well served to stick with the real job but of course he neglects his responsibility to the citizens of South Carolina. He’s all rabbit ears for sure.

  3. jeez…I guess Barrett’s ex-cheerleader wife was the foundation of the pyramid…
