Councilwoman has too much time on her hands

WHILE CITY BURNS, GERGEL ATTACKS BLOGGERS

I think it’s fair to say that when you serve on one of the most inept governmental bodies in the country (Google “useless government” and see what comes up third), you should expect some criticism. Especially when you billed yourself as the solution to the countless problems plaguing your jurisdiction, only to immediately pick up the status quo ball and run full steam ahead.

No, I’m not talking about anyone in the state legislature — although I could be. I’m referring to Columbia City Councilwoman Belinda Gergel who Wednesday issued a “stern warning” to a local blog to watch the tone of its writings.

Gergel urged the Foundation for Columbia’s Future to monitor the tone of its Web site, calling the language on The Pulse of Columbia blog “insulting and personally disrespectful.”

Gergel’s comments came during her speech at the group’s monthly meeting Tuesday. During Gergel’s campaign for City Council, the blog questioned Gergel’s judgment and posted allegations that she lied on her ethics report. [The State]

I’m sorry Ms. Gergel, don’t you have anything better to do? Like, gee, I don’t know, maybe tackle one of the numerous issues The Pulse is writing about.

And did you ever think that maybe they have a point and you are doing a great disservice to city residents by serving as a crony for Mayor Bob Coble and his failed government?

Columbia is burning, councilwoman… maybe it’s stop to stop fanning the flames.

  1. You hit the nail on the head with that one. But watch out, she may issue you a stern warning too! If she, as people, would do her business then she wouldn’t have the time or the need to berate people for saying “insulting” things about her. And she wouldn’t have to worry about it if they did.

  2. That Google trick is amazing, but I have no idea how it works. The word “useless” isn’t even on the City of Columbia page that comes up.

  3. TPS… All Hail the Blogosphere!!!

You’re right… the fact is that very few people have taken a real look at issues until we have come out and said the MSM doesn’t get it!!

    We are much obliged!!

    Your Friends at The Pulse

  4. Adam, don’t you get it?

“Shut up and do yer work.”

    “Wrong, Do it again!”

“If you don’t eat yer meat, you can’t have any pudding. How can you
have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?”

  5. Hmmm… that photo looks… familiar….

  6. If you must…

  7. This comment applies to many elected people, the majority of them from outside of Columbia and South Carolina. I am not aiming for Ms. Gergel, but a collective group of elected people.
Does anyone who criticizes “bloggers” not get it ?…”Bloggers” are We the People!

  8. What is there to respect? Her hairdo?

  9. Columbia’s “useless government” also comes up number 12 on Yahoo search. We”re famous. My hat is off to the hackers responsible, a real COUP! Now if you could just provide the same level of service to our esteemed state government……

  10. Wow. You have council persons who can actually find, read and then respond to a blog! Although they’ve yet to grasp the concept of commenting on the actual blog they’re whining about. And The State has yet to figure out the concept of live linking, but I diverge…

Internets 101 is very slow-going, of course; last I checked, here in Georgia, our elected reps. were still trying to figure out how to send email.
