SC NATIVE WORKING TO LEAD GOP NOMINEE THROUGH ANOTHER UPHILL BATTLE
He was an instrumental part of the team that delivered GOP presidential nominee John McCain a pivotal come-from-behind Palmetto State primary win and now South Carolina’s Trey Walker is fighting to replicate that success in Virginia, a key swing state where McCain faces a similar uphill battle.
This morning Walker, who is now serving as McCain’s regional campaign manager for the mid-Atlantic, took to the notoriously liberal National Public Radio to preach the good word in this interview (Hear Walker around the 3 minute mark): [audio:npr_clip.mp3]
With NPR obviously in the bag for Obama, it’s shocking they even let him talk it all. Especially when the news is that McCain is doing quite well in Virginia.
That said, he still has a fight on his hands. Not only are NPR and the rest of the media shilling for the Illinois Senator, but Obama is pouring money and resources into the commonwealth and Gov. Tim Kaine is even being mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick. Beyond that, the state Republican Party is incredibly weak and, with former Democrat Gov. Mark Warner enjoying an overwhelming lead in his Senate bid, they have few, if any, resources in reserve.
The Real Clear Politics polling average has an exact tie between McCain and Obama at 46.7 percent each.
But if Walker could help take McCain from dead in the water to six months later winning a miraculous upset in a state he lost in 2000, then I wouldn’t bet against the man in the mid-Atlantic.

Dude, just how young and media un-savvy ARE you? NPR has always been quite fond of McCain, as have many in ye olde “liberal media.” Read more here to find out why. And oh yeah, there’s a full interview with McCain you seem to have neglected to tell your readership about:

Wow – I guess Virginia really was in play after all. Mr. Trey walker and our party should not have put so much stock in demand for bumper stickers (listen to NPR story). When he said he had lots of fired up volunteers knocking on doors I have to admit I never saw one here in Fairfax, but had tons of Obama supporters knocking on our door all summer & fall. Our local party and the McCain campaign were/are paper tigers and unless we get back to our core Christian values, our party will never win again – not here in VA nor anywhere else!
I am so glad McCain is not our President. And we thought it couldn’t get any worse. Well, it certainly could have.
