ARSONIST HITS COURTHOUSE, 6TH CIRCUIT SOLICITOR’S OFFICE DAYS APART

There is absolutely nothing going on right now in South Carolina. Everyone is either on vacation or wishing they were on vacation. Seriously, I could use a magic news-finding fishing pole and cast it into the sea of endless stories and I still wouldn’t catch much of anything.

So with that fine introduction, take it away crazy pyromaniac person in Lancaster targeting the local justice system…

Investigators are looking into the second suspicious fire at a criminal justice building in Lancaster County this week.

A fire was reported about 4:15 a.m. at Sixth Circuit Solicitor Doug Barfield’s office, on Dunlap Street, across the street from the historic county courthouse that authorities say was torched by an arsonist earlier this week. Investigators have not linked the two incidents together.

The blaze was extinguished quickly, but Lancaster Fire Chief Chris Nunnery said the Solicitor’s Office and four other attorneys’ offices in the building are damaged. He said it was difficult to tell how long the fire was burning or how it started. No injuries were reported.

On Monday, a fire destroyed parts of the historic 180-year old Lancaster County Courthouse. Investigators believe someone broke in through a front window, went up to the second floor and intentionally set the fire, then escaped by going out the back door. County officials want to try to restore the courthouse. [ROCK HILL HERALD]

I think if we want to stop serial arsonists, we should start locking them in a fireproof room together and giving them each a box of matches and a can of odorless kerosene to douse one other person. Only, one of the cans will secretly contain water. We could make it into a game show. The winner gets the chance to fight for their freedom against a pride of man-eating lions.

Sounds like Lynn Seithel is alive and well and practicing law in Lancaster County, if you ask me.
