FORMER GAMECOCK WAIVED BY BUCCANEERS

The only Gamecock selected in this year’s NFL Draft has been cut been the team that drafted him.

After selecting Cory Boyd in the seventh round in April, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived the former University of South Carolina running back Friday because of a knee injury. But reports are that he could still wind up sticking with the team.

Multiple Tampa-area media outlets reported that Boyd failed a physical because of his knee issues. If no other team claims Boyd off waivers, he’ll head to the Buccaneers’ injured reserve.

Boyd hurt his knee in offseason workouts.

He was the Gamecocks’ leading rusher last season with 903 yards on 180 carries. [The State]

Despite this news, I still have faith that Boyd will some day be a star in the NFL. He had a great college career and has shown that he has the talent to be a major third down back.

If it doesn’t pan out though, it would mark the first time that I have ever been wrong about something.
