PAPER MAY BE CLOSING, BUT NOT BEFORE COVERING TIMELESS GAS STATION WEDDING
Anyone who’s ever lived in Anderson, been to Anderson, or even thought about Anderson can tell you there’s something in the water up there. And not just the cliché “something in the water,” but something more along the lines of incredibly high concentrations of lead.
There is perhaps no greater example of that than Friday’s heroic coverage by the local Anderson Independent Mail of a truly romantic gas station wedding.
Planning a wedding involves many decisions, but where to get married was one decision Barry and Tammy Patterson didn’t have to think about.
After seven years together, the pair wanted to tie the knot at the place where their relationship started: the Hickory Point gas station at Simpson Road and East Greenville Street where Tammy works.
“It was just the perfect place,” Tammy said as friends and family blew bubbles at the happy couple.
Just after 11 p.m. every night, Barry would stop at the station on his way home from work. For two months they flirted. Then one night, Barry came back to the station, and at pump 14 he asked Tammy on their first date.
“I knew there was something special about him that day, the first day I seen him,” she said. [HEIDI CENAC - Anderson Independent Mail]
Oh yeah, he’s special alright.
Only minutes after reading about that piece of groundbreaking journalism on FITSNews, The Palmetto Scoop learned that the Great Hickory Point Pump 14 wedding may be the paper’s swan song. I’ve been told that the Independent Mail is downsizing to a tabloid newspaper, has “restructured” similar to The State newspaper, and could be closing for good very soon.
“They’ve got a few months left at most,” the source with close ties to the paper said. “It’s a tough time for newspapers, especially up here.”
Of course, I’ve always been surprised that there are enough people in Anderson with the ability to read to keep the paper in business. Apparently, my suspicions were right.

This pathetic post is about?
1 – The quality of water in Anderson
2 – Peoples right to get married where they choose
3 – Using post from another blogger
4 – Gloating over the closing of another SC business
5 – The only school district in SC with dummies
This post is completely distasteful. Anyone who has spent time in Anderson knows that the Independent-Mail has played an important role in our community for many years. To gloat over such a situation is completely inappropriate. Second, anyone who lives in Anderson knows that the area is a great place to live. In fact, it is listed as an All-American County. Perhaps the author is jealous because of the deplorable condition of his own home county. My friend, your comments just cost your blog another reader.
