HEY, THERE’S NOTHING ELSE TO DO TONIGHT
I usually reserve “live blogging” for special occasions because I think it’s one of the most overkilled things in the ’sphere. Like when someone sits in their living room and writes continuous updates about something that 30 million people are also watching on television.
But I haven’t done a live blog since the Myrtle Beach debate and there’s a lot going on tonight. So between now and whenever I decide to head out to the various victory parties around town, I will do the live blog thing.
So check below for updates throughout the night.
11:51 p.m. – I apologize for the abrupt end of the live blogging. The thunderstorms in Columbia laid waste to my Internet. Anyway, check the Greenville News or WIS for a complete list of results. It was a big night tonight.
9:01 p.m. – In State House District 37, Steve Parker will defeat incumbent Ralph Davenport.
8:59 p.m. – Shane Martin has just crossed 50 percent in State Senate District 13 with 60 percent reporting and could be on his way to a huge outright upset.
8:57 p.m. – In State House District 117, Tim Scott will win without a runoff holding down 53 percent of the vote.
8:55 p.m. – In a four way race for State House District 105, George Hearn is carrying 54 percent and will likely win outright.
8:52 p.m. – Shane Martin leads Sen. Jim Ritchie in Senate District 13 by a total of 49 to 33 with 44 percent reporting. Max Hyde is a distant third with 19 points. One more point and Martin would win without a runoff.
8:44 p.m. – The Greenville News has 43 percent reporting in a close race where Randy Scott leads Mike Rose by 6 points.
8:40 p.m. – WPDE-TV has called it for Sen. Luke Rankin. He has held off a challenge from County Councilwoman Liz Gilland.
8:39 p.m. – With 5 percent reporting in Senate District 13, Sen. Jim Ritchie is losing to Shane Martin by 8 points. Both men are under 50 percent, though.
8:37 p.m. – In the contested U.S. House races: Joe Wilson is trouncing Phil Black with 85 percent of the vote, Henry Brown has 71 percent over Paul Norris and Katherine Jenerette, and Bob Inglis is pulling only 66 percent against Charles Jeter.
8:33 p.m. – With 37 percent of precincts reporting, Sen. Lindsey Graham has solidly defeated Buddy Witherspoon and currently holds a 40 point lead.
8:28 p.m. – The Senate District 10 race will likely go to a runoff with Dee Compton securing a commanding lead. The only question will be whether Chip Stockman or Norman Outzts, both about 20 points behind, will join him.
8:17 p.m. – Sen. Randy Scott now leads Mike Rose 67 to 33 in Senate District 38.
8:11 p.m. – Another huge upset: Tom Davis has defeated Sen. Catherine Ceips with 56 percent of the vote in Senate District 46. Congrats to Randy Page, SCRG and the governor for knocking off one of their major targets.
8:09 p.m. – In Senate District 38, Mike Rose is leading Sen. Randy Scott 60 to 40.
8:07 p.m. – WIS-TV has Luke Rankin up 70 to 27 with 15 percent reporting in Senate District 33.
8:02 p.m. – In House District 94, Jenny Horne has picked off the first incumbent and will defeat Rep. Heyward Hutson by a commanding 58 to 42. Richard Quinn and Associates lands their first huge win of the night.
7:50 p.m. – The first credible results are finally trickling in. The only really stunner so far is House District 79 where David Herndon leads Sheri Few 40 to 32. Tony Lamm has 28 percent there. Lindsey Graham and Joe Wilson are also up HUGE with only a few votes counted.
7:00 p.m. – It’s 7:00 and the polls have officially closed. Let the fun begin!
6:40 p.m. – Twenty minutes until polls close and reports are that turnout was abysmal all over the state. I’m hearing that very few precincts went above 20 percent and most were at 10 percent or less. For some folks that’s a lucky break, for others it’s bad news.

Poor Buddy never had a chance. I heard people calling him crazy weeks ago.
If Buddy spent ~$200,000 and Lindsey Graham spent ~$3,000,000, that means Lindsey outspent his opponent well over 1000:1 ! It’s amazing that Buddy had any votes at all…and possibly he wouldn’t have had any if Graham hadn’t made such a fool out of himself in Washington.
I suspect Mr (Pardon me that is Dentist) witherspoon’s facist leanings had something to do with ite.
or ~15:1 (too much coffee)
why the hell can’t the SC Elections commison post the results on their web site…promptly and correctly.
F’ing idiots…these are the worst type of government agency
What? No comments about the resounding defeat in House Dist 22? After all the BS you were shoveling over the past few days I thought you would at least have the decency to congratulate Nanney on her victory.
Two words: adios Gloria.
you guys couldn’t save the haskins’ family. two losses in one night. man the quinn family…SUCKS or should I say VIVA La CONSERVATISM!
By the way McLovin, is that your dad in that picture?
anonymous,
To my knowledge, RQA had the biggest night of anyone. They overwhelmingly picked off an incumbent in HD94. They held a U.S. Senate seat and a U.S. House seat. They won the Senate 10 primary which is going to a runoff. And they are in a runoff in HD 81.
Sure Nanney won. But she had to lie, cheat, manipulate and break the law to do so. It’ll be a “real win” for SC voters when she does those same things in the House. Say what you want about Gloria, but she NEVER did any of those things in office or while campaigning.

if you are in a run off you haven’t won it yet. Ask Jakie that. I think the folks over at Starboard and Chris Drummond down in Charleston beat the Cheeto and Milk Society pretty handily. I wouldn’t count Joe Wilson and Lindsey Graham’s wins as victories unless you are counting all of the money richard got to put in his bank account.
Well, on the bright side, i’ll soon get another chance to vote against lindsey.
Adam,
You (and whatever staff you may have) are so full of CRAP for Gloria it’s incredible. Haskins routinely lied to us in Dist 22, but being down in Columbia you wouldn’t realize that or maybe you do but you’re being paid extremely well by RQA.
Secondly, the only lie(s) told about the email was by the Haskins campaign. They first said it didn’t exist – it was a figment of the Nanney campaign’s collective imagination. Then when it was produced Haskins stated it was doctored. So, what is it?! Does it not exist or was it doctored? Answer – neither! It existed for over a year on the internet as it was presented by the Nanney campaign – long before Nanney ever got into running for the State House. No matter how much you “spin doctors” try you can’t turn Gloria into a good legislator, she wasn’t and those are the cold hard facts that faced us in the Upstate.
Lastly, it was a pretty clear choice for me when I learned that all of Gloria’s siblings were for Wendy Nanney, that says volumes to every sane person. If you don’t believe it you should ask the siblings of Gloria.
As was said earlier Adios Gloria and Adios Palmetto Scoop or should I say “Palmetto Poop”.
Oh wow. She really used the word poop.
Protip: Writing about politics is more convincing when you avoid using the word poop.
