SENATE CANDIDATE SENDS BOATERS TO INTERRUPT OPPONENT’S DINNER

A campaign event for State Senate candidate Lee Bright turned into a bit of a spectacle when his opposition, Rep. Scott Talley, sent a boat carrying a four-foot-by-eight-foot road sign to crash the party.

In the above video cleverly set to the theme song from the movie Jaws, you can see a motorboat (ed: Wedding Crashers, baby) with the offending “Talley for Senate” sign attempt to interrupt a May 15 Bright dinner at the Twin Lakes Clubhouse in Spartanburg. I think it’s safe to say I haven’t seen such a masterfully executed political move since the fourth grade student president elections when Betsy Sue Carter threw mashed potatoes at Bobby Smith, saying “you’re a stinky head.”

I’m told that there were two people in boat, one was a younger individual and the other was none other than Sen. John Hawkins, who is currently supporting Talley to take over his seat.

But, then again, I’m told a lot of things.

One time, Buddy Witherspoon told me that there were aliens coming to take my home, my family and my job, so I went out and bought all the tinfoil in the state. Only later did I find out that he meant Mexicans, not Martians.

So I guess, don’t believe everything you’re told. Except when I tell it to you, because then it’s true.

Plus, if anyone is going to lie, it’s Talley and his crew. They’ve been doing a lot of that lately.

I found it rather amusing – a harmless prank that blew off some steam in what has been a heated campaign. For extra effect, I would’ve dressed the guy in the boat in a SpongeBob outfit – matching the Bright campaign colors.

Instead of taking it seriously, the Bright people need to counter-prank them. It is a moral imperative that they not let them get away with it.

Maybe they can arrange a pirate boarding party for the next lakeside party, or a pirate landing party at the next lakeside Talley event?
