IT’S WNBA SUPERSTAR… WAIT FOR IT… … … DAWN STALEY!

I think the above video adequately represents my feelings toward, and knowledge of, the WNBA. For those of you unfamiliar with the WNBA, it is the NBA’s attempt to take the incredibly boring “sport” of professional basketball and girl it up.

I’m not by any means a sexist or anything, but you have to admit that the WNBA is downright atrocious. There are a lot of things that women are better at than men, but basketball isn’t one of them. Not even close.

I mean, come on, they WNBA has had one dunk in the league’s history. And a team scoring in the double-digits is pretty much considered to have had a high-scoring game.

Regardless, the University of South Carolina has hired former WNBA superstar — umm, hmm, let me see here… oh, there it is — Dawn Staley to coach the women’s basketball team.

Staley is a three-time Olympic gold medalist and former WNBA All-Star, and has been the head coach of the Temple Owls since April, 2000. She took over a program that had not experienced a winning record in almost a decade and immediately became successful, leading the Owls to a 19-11 record and a first-round appearance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.

Staley went on this past season to become the all-time Temple women’s basketball coach with career wins at 172-80.

In her eight seasons at Temple, Staley produced six NCAA appearances, four Atlantic Ten titles, five Big Five crowns, including the last four straight. [Gamecock Anthem]

There’s more to this story, but if you’re like me, you probably stopped reading a while ago.

But there is something kind of interesting about this. Despite the fact that she looks just like former Gamecock football star Duce Staley, and despite the fact that they share a surname, and despite the fact that they are only five years apart in age, and despite the fact that they are both now connected to USC, Duce and Dawn are apparently not related.

Although, I could be wrong about that because I didn’t really care enough to research that fact.

Fine, that wasn’t really interesting, but whatever. I’d like to see you come up with a better story.
