TPS turns 1 year old

THIS ONE’S FOR THE LOYAL READERS

I was out of town all weekend living the dream and purposely forgot my computer, so I didn’t adequately mark The Palmetto Scoop’s first birthday Saturday. That’s right, this crazy adventure to redefine the South Carolina blogosphere all began with an innocent little welcome post on May 3, 2007.

It’s hard to believe this blog has made it an entire year, and what a long way this has come.

We’ve had 1,230 posts (and counting) and more than half-a-million unique hits (or three-quarters-of-a-million pageviews if that’s how you prefer to measure such things). But we couldn’t do it without you, our loyal readers.

So to honor this site’s turning one year old, I don’t want to re-hash the greatest hits because I just did that five months ago. We’ve had a post or two that would probably make an updated “Top 10″ list, but I would rather pay tribute to the people who really keep this machine rolling along.

After all, this site would be pointless without you good people stopping by and reading it. And, in particular, those of you that take the time to comment.

So here’s a better list:

The First Annual Ceremony-Less TPS Commenters of the Year Awards medal winners:

HON. MENTION - Silence Dogood

I have a lot of respect for Silence Dogood, not just for the awesome Ben Franklin reference, but also because ole Silence is one of a handful of commenters that pop up on numerous South Carolina blogs to offer un-spun commentary. He/she hasn’t been very active on this site recently, but hopefully they’ll get back in the game soon.

BRONZE - lou

I’m pretty sure lou is a big time crazy liberal, but she comments a lot and is very eccentric with her punctuation!!!????,,,,!!!!!??!!! That makes her pretty cool in my book and that’s enough to win her third place.

SILVER - Bill A

The only person in TPS history to have over 100 comments under the same name, I can usually expect Bill A to post a comment on even the most boring stories. That’s pretty good for a guy who didn’t start chiming in until last summer. Unfortunately, Bill A rarely agrees with me, is a part of the Ron Paul conspiracy machine and his comments usually center around attacking me, but I guess this just goes to show how much I appreciate my detractors. Enjoy your silver medal Bill A, you’ve earned it — plus I hear silver makes for a great tinfoil replacement!

GOLD - john dozier

The gold goes to john dozier for four reasons: 1. He came in second in total comments; 2. He provides a good bit of substance; 3. He actually uses his real name (I think); 4. He usually agrees with me. That’s a grand slam, folks. And I don’t think I need to say anything more in justifying john dozier’s gold medal in the First Annual Ceremony-Less TPS Commenters of the Year Awards.

Congrats to our big winners. They don’t actually win anything tangible, but my admiration should be more than enough. And for that, they can expect a bill in the mail.

If you didn’t make the list, then try harder. Next year I might even give out prizes worth however many dollars it takes me to get them out of the toy crane claw vending machine thing at the bowling alley.

But in all seriousness, I really appreciate everyone stopping by and leaving the love… or the hate. Keep it up folks, and here’s to another great year of breaking/making news and pissing people off.

  1. I am truly honored, I know its not a Darwin or anything, but thanks anyway. When does the trophy arrive?

  2. Over 100? Wow, I never would have guessed.

Well here’s a toast to another 100 posts pointing out that blindly following the party line isn’t necessarily the best course of action.

  3. I’ll toast to that, Bill

  4. You are doing good work, Adam.

    Keepup the good work.
