A TALE OF TWO GAS TANKS?
I was reading a really great post on The Other Brooks Brothers about how Spartanburg GOP Chairman/Neanderthal Rick Beltram completely owns the Herald-Journal, when I noticed a very interesting picture in their Flickr sidebar. Apparently, Lt. Gov. André Bauer not only has a sweet new smart car, but he also has — or had — a Jeep Wagoneer.
So which car is SC2?
If it’s the smart car, then it looks like Bauer has made a “smart” investment. The Wagoneer gets about 15 miles per gallon, while the smart car gets 40 or something ridiculous like that.
Unfortunately, the smart car’s gas tank is about the size of my pinky toe. Plus, the Wagoneer, can be used to drive around Junior in the 1990 hit movie “Problem Child.” Wait… maybe Bauer was the original problem child.
Of course, none of this changes the fact that you’re going to look like a fool in either car.
Now, I’ve heard a rumor that the Wagoneer actually belongs to Office of the Aging Director Curtis Loftis. If that’s true, then why the guv-lite tags?
__________
UPDATE: Curtis Loftis just gave me a call and let me know that the Wagoneer is Bauer’s old car. Which is consistent with Kevin Lane’s comment below. I told you I was confused.

TPS,
Thanks for the kind words about Wilson’s post today. He’s fun to watch because he doesn’t take compliments well and got all embarrassed when I brought it up. Watching him squirm was more entertaining than Guitar Hero.
I wanted to take a quick second and clear up any mix-ups about the picture and license plate to keep the LTG from getting hate calls.
The pic of the SC2 Wagoneer was taken about a year ago while I was walking across the Statehouse grounds. I saw it and snapped the shot because for some reason it’s my baby sister’s favorite kind of car. I thought she’d think it was neat to see the SC2 tag on the back of it.
Fast forward several months to a time when I was working on the OBB site design and add-ons. I used that pic to play around with Flickr because I thought we would probably use more photos as our blog found its legs and figured out what it wanted to be.
I actually took the Smart Car pic the same day you did (shortly after WIS finished taping its segment) but didn’t want to throw that shot up and write a big piece since you beat me to the punch. I didn’t want to copycat, so I just left it in Flickr as a standalone shot with no commentary.
With all of that said and just to clarify, to my knowledge the SC2 tag is not switching cars. It was on Lt. Governor Bauer’s Wagoneer last year and is on his new Jetsons car now.
Thanks again for the kind words, and I hope we didn’t cause too much confusion.

Hi Adam,
Just a quick note…
As Lt. Governor, Andre receives 3 license tags, one of which is on his Smart Car. He sold the Jeep a little over a year ago.
I have never had an SC2 on any vehicle that I own or drive.
All my best,
Curt Loftis, Jr.
Director
Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging
PS…Andre wants to know when you want to go for a spin??
Curt
Curtis,
Tell him as soon as he puts a wheelchair ramp in there, I’m down.

I saw Andre driving around town yesterday in the smart car.
