LOCAL NEWS REPORTER SHOWS OFF FISTICUFF SKILLS
I don’t know how I missed this, but the guys at The Shot picked up on the clip of a WSPA reporter getting attacked while covering the family of a murder victim in Union. You can see the video above from the newscast.
It’s not as amazing as the inter-network news fight scene from Anchorman, but it’s still pretty awesome. If only somebody had brought out a trident or a medieval mace.
WSPA reporter Charmayne Brown and photographer Ti Barnes were covering the scene of the homicide investigation in Union when the attack occurred. Brown says she was across the street from the victim’s house when family members began yelling at her to leave.
Brown says the group was also yelling racial slurs at her and her photographer. She says one of the women in the group then rushed at her, punched her and dragged her to the ground. She says at that point it’s hard for her to recall what was going on, but News Channel 7’s satellite truck operator Ray Daubenspeck says he also saw the woman punching her. He called 911, picked up a camera and began recording video. Brown says at least two other people joined in on the attack as her photographer tried to pull them off of her. [Greenville News]
The coolest thing about this is, right around the 1:36 mark, it looks like Brown (the black lady in the pantsuit) got up after the fight was first broken up and proceeded to go after the other lady. She didn’t just take it and run away, she attacked back.
Also cool: the guy who shot this video rather than help out. That’s my kind of journalist.
