Real Blueprint

SC BAD BOY SPEARHEADS SPURIOUS REFORM EFFORT

I don’t know who all will be taking part in Rod Shealy’s rumored “Reform Caucus,” but when I was passed along a draft of their “Blueprint for Reform” (pdf here) I couldn’t help but laugh. Not that these things don’t sound good on paper, but they fly in the face of everything Shealy represents. And I’m guessing most of those in the legislature who would be duped by him into putting their name on this are in the same boat.

I could be wrong and maybe some of the people who join the caucus are born-again reformers, but I’m inclined to agree with FITSNews that this is all just a gimmick because, as he said, “the bigger the lie, the easier it is to sell.” We know that legislators love grandstanding, and what better way to do that than by proposing ten items that you will never follow for which you will never be held you accountable.

Why do I think this is all a sham? Let’s look at number four: “Trim ‘pork’ spending.” Read this post and then tell me if that’s ever going to happen. I promise you that if it ever does happen, it’s not going to be because of some insincere set of random “goals.”

Also, I think we’ve had enough of these “reform” groups.

Anyway, here’s the list (sorry it’s a jpg, I don’t have time to type all of this out):

Maybe Rod can add these to his so-called “reform” list

Reform #11: Make it a criminal offense to send out third-party campaign mailings by fictitious groups that don’t really exist.

Reform #12: Not allow people to serve on the Worker’s Comp board who have no experience in the field, and prohibit anyone who serves on any state board to work as an attorney, consultant, or have any professional relationship in that involves cases that are under the jurisdiction of that board for five years after leaving that board.

Reform #13: Make it a criminal offense to send out mailings within four days of an election that make false claims about an opponent.

I doubt he’d support these. It would cost him and family too much money. But I suppose it never hurts to ask.

Say cool things about reform and do nothing…

Is that the Sanford family motto? On the family crest?

Kyle – nice ideas, but if you look at who is associated with them, you’ll know it’s a smoke screen. Don’t be fooled.
