GUV STILL WEIGHING OPTIONS FOR 1948 TRUMAN, DEWEY RACE
In a “ringing” endorsement given through HIS SPOKESMAN to the Associated Press, Gov. Mark Sanford has FINALLY endorsed Republican presidential nominee John McCain. A full two days after McCain locked up the party’s nomination.
Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor said all along said he would support the Republican Party’s nominee.
Sawyer says that Sanford thinks McCain will make a great president.
Sanford had been a state co-chairman of McCain’s 2000 campaign in South Carolina. But this time around he kept his preferences to himself before and after the first-in-the-South primary on January 19. [AP]
How freaking lame. Not only does he lack the cajones to back his party’s nominee, but when at long-last he summons the “courage” to do so, he does it through a spokesman. Not himself, someone else. And not even a direct quote from the spokesman, just a pair of paraphrased statements.
When asked if Sanford had yet decided on a candidate to endorse in the heated 1948 presidential race between Harry Truman and Thomas Dewey, Sawyer responded with a press release that is embargoed until next year.
Regardless, this certainly looks like a guy who is doing everything he can to NOT earn the vice presidential nod. And for once, he’s had a great deal of success in achieving one of his goals.
Sanford’s actions increasingly prove that he’s really lost in the woods right now. Hopefully, one day, Sawyer will issue a statement telling us where those woods are located in case we need to contact the governor.

We sill have to start calling him “caboose” Sanford!
“Alright! We’ve landed on the Moon!”
So the Governor that gave us the “Sanford Diet for Seniors…No food July 4th thru Thanksgiving”, goes for McCain.
Whoppee
How about…Welcome to Sanford Land: Please don’t feed the Seniors.
Here’s a novel idea: perhaps Gov. Mark Sanford is actually a fiscal conservative.
And perhaps our governor had the courage to stand aside until his friend (who voted AGAINST the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, FOR the moronic McCain-Feingold anti-free speech bill, FOR the McCain-Kennedy illegal immigrant amnesty legislation, etc, etc) had virtually locked up the nomination.
Wow. Gov. Mark Sanford’s steadfast convictions make you slimy political hacks look small in comparison. And, for the record, this is coming from someone who didn’t even vote for Sanford in the last primary. His political courage has won my respect.
Now maybe… just maybe… all those times people would ask him if he wanted to be vice president this cycle, and he said no, maybe he was telling the truth?
You yourself have argued that his best course of action to secure himself on the ticket would be to have endorsed McCain before the primary.

I think those “lost in the woods” right now are the ones foisting a guy upon us who has done everything is his power to govern like a liberal Democrat since 2000.
A guy who twice voted against cutting taxes. A guy who voted to stifle free speech. A guy who kneecapped his own party’s majority with the power to select judges. A guy who tried to grant 20 million illegals blanket amnesty and whose minions (see Graham, Lindsey) called those opposing him “bigots.” A guy who is trying to push man-made global warming “solutions” on the American people. A guy who is doing everything he can to circumvent the very campaign spending laws he himself proposed. A guy who tells those within his own party to “F-off.” And a guy who has already shown in this primary cycle that he doesn’t have guts or courage to go after his opponents on the left (see Cunningham, Bill).
The Republican Party elites and insiders have given us a candidate who is unelectable in November. He will not beat - and cannot beat - either Obama or Clinton.
And perhaps Sanford - not wanting to tie himself to this coming train wreck - knows it.
I just have one question.
Who is Mark Sanford? The only Sanford I’m familiar with is Fred Sanford, but he’s a fictional character.
Joe is right on the mark, if this is the best the GOP has to offer, why bother with an endorsment? Why would any Rep/Cons. want to endorse a liberal?
Highway patrol interfered with narcs, senator says
Lawmaker shows newspaper a tape of state officers harassing county narcotics team
Months before the South Carolina Senate confirmed Jim Schweitzer in 2004 as the new director of the Department of Public Safety, Sen. Jake Knotts of Lexington said he showed him a videotape of Highway Patrol troopers harassing local narcotics agents on a stakeout because the troopers were upset the local officers were in their territory.
The troopers, in an unmarked SUV, parked near the local agents and then did what they could to discourage the agents from staying, Knotts said, including shining their lights on the highway, shouting and singing over their vehicle’s loudspeaker and turning on their blue lights. And when the agents finally pulled out onto the highway in pursuit of the car they were waiting on, the troopers blocked them, Knotts said.

Sanford is smart enough to know McCain(aka Bush3) is nothing but a washed up, deficit creating, war -mongering, over the hill codger -who has no chance of winning this fall.
I m disappointed he endorsed McCain at all .

Attorney General Henry McMaster Contemplating Investigation Of Governor Mark Sanford
FITSNews - March 9, 2008 - “S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster is weighing an investigation into Gov. Mark Sanford’s involvement in a controversial Lowcountry development deal, sources tell FITSNews”.
“According to an e-mail obtained by FITSNews, Sanford is said to have accused Hilton Head Island developer David Staley of being a “womanizer.” Staley’s firm won the bid to develop the property”…
“FITSNews on the condition of anonymity claim they have uncovered a “smoking gun” against Sanford, who is on the record saying that he did not specifically instruct his Ports Authority Chairman to sell the property to any particular bidder”.
“These Senators point to an e-mail drafted for the signature of Ports Authority Chairman Bill Stern, an e-mail that was obtained by the Senate Finance Committee under the state’s Freedom of Information Act”.
“In the e-mail - which Stern apparently never sent to Sanford - the governor’s involvement on behalf of Chaffin/Light is specifically characterized as an instruction, not a recommendation”.
