MAYBE SANFORD DIDN’T GET THE MEMO

The leader of the South Carolina Republican Party is formally endorsing soon-to-be Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Chairman Katon Dawson, who chose to remain neutral until the GOP had chosen its candidate, said tonight that he is pledging his full support to McCain.

“First, I want to congratulate Governor Mike Huckabee and all of our Republican candidates for president on the optimistic, issue-orientated campaigns they ran,” Dawson said. “Tonight, I am proud to pledge the full support of the South Carolina Republican Party to Senator John McCain who clinched the Republican nomination for President of the United States.”

His endorsement came mere moments after former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee officially ended his White House bid following a shutout in tonight’s primaries. Dawson was one of the last Republican heavyweights in the state to get behind McCain.

“McCain is a common sense conservative who believes in winning the war on terror, growing our economy and protecting the traditional values we hold dear,” he said. “His leadership at the top of the Republican ticket will be a tremendous benefit to our strong slate of Republican candidates in November.”

Dawson’s endorsement raises a number of questions about Gov. Mark Sanford’s decision to not offer his support to McCain, something he did eagerly and early eight years ago. Pondered one South Carolina insider, “when is Sanford going to finally show up to the dance?”

On the night when McCain took the final step in earning his party’s nomination, South Carolina’s role was not lost on Dawson. “McCain’s historic win tonight reaffirms what South Carolina Republicans have known for 28 years: We pick presidents.”

SCDP Chair Says Sanford Should Be Investigated

Columbia, SC- South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler released the following statement in response to the call for an investigation into Gov. Mark Sanford’s role in the Port Royal deal.

“There should be an investigation into Mark Sanford’s shady deal. South Carolina residents don’t need politicians who use their power and influence for their own and their friends’ personal interests.

This type of cash-for-favors politics is better suited for mafia movies and crime dramas than real life. It hurts our state more than it helps,” said Fowler. “From John McCain’s ties to corporate lobbyists to Mark Sanford’s cash-for-favors scheme, Democrats are ready to change how business is done in Washington and Columbia.”

Don and Carol Fowler were both lobbyists within the past year. Seems a little strange they are now opposed to the lifestyle that paid their bills.

““McCain is a common sense conservative who believes in winning the war on terror, growing our economy and protecting the traditional values we hold dear,”

Umm….his record suggests otherwise. Sorry Katon. And just what exactly is “common sense conservatism”? What’s that supposed to mean?

It’s Bob Dole all over again. Unfortunately.

Developnor Sanfraud against a “Real I.D.”

Homeland Security says the Real ID, a new driver’s license, will have security features to prevent forgery and will only be issued after a check of birth certificates, Social Security numbers and immigration status.

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff says that …South Carolina must seek an extension by the end of this month, or, starting May 11, residents …won’t be able to use their driver’s licenses to board a domestic flight.

If South Carolina does not seek an extension by March 31, we pluffmudders and other South Kakalackians will be subject to a second security screening at airports.

You watch, South Carolina will be the LAST State to adopt a “Real I.D.”. And in the meantime we will attract every Tom, Dick, and Jose and Juan with a fake I.D.

What Sanfraud is doing is pro-criminal. Go figure?

Let’s not forget that South Carolina is NUMBER ONE in violent crime for the last seven years. WHY? Little ole South Carolina? We are beating out places like Miami, Dallas, L.A, Chicago, Atlanta, New York for violent crimes committed per capita. Why is that?

Come to South Carolina for smiling faces and beautiful places and where thugs and goons are welcomed by the Govendevelopnor.

The Govendevelopnor “Houdini” Mark Sanfraud will, I’m sure, pull a rabbit out of the hat on this one. Maybe he will be able get the Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff FIRED!

    TOBACCO INTERESTS OWN GOVERNOR

RJR owns our legislature and worse – our governor. Sanford argues a stupid made-for-the-press argument when in fact – he owes RJR heavily for his election (BIG CAMPAIGN MONEY). So do ALL REPUBLICANS of any long term standing….RJR wrote the most recent bill that is being debated that will overturn all smoking laws in SC…

Public health is not a priority to SC Legislators.

And Sanford is an absolute phony having allowed another year to go by with millions of dollars that could have been raised to offset the massive cost of health care in SC

IT IS TIME FOR THE CIG TAX TO PASS AND THE LEGISLATURE TO OVERRIDE SANFORD WHO IS OWNED BY BIG TOBACCO.

Largest pot busts in Kentucky in years via Port of Charleston, South Carolina

Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) – More arrests are likely in one of the largest marijuana busts in Kentucky in a long time. Exactly 1,229 pounds of marijuana were confiscated.

State police say the drugs were shipped from Mexico and hidden in 50 pound bags of a chemical compound used to make plastic.

When the shipment arrived in the port of Charleston, South Carolina, agents drove them by truck to Kendall’s Quick Lube in Lawrenceburg.

Officers waited there for three days until the business’ owner, Randy Kendall, loaded the packages on another truck and drove them to his home.

Kendall is charged with trafficking marijuana.

It was just great work by investigators to get to the point where they saw it was coming in; they knew where it was going. From that point, they just did their jobs.

The marijuana is valued at nearly 2-million dollars.

State, federal agents seize more than 1,200 lbs. of pot

    FRANKFORT MAN FACES DRUG CHARGES

An investigation, which teamed up state and federal law enforcement officials, led state police to the seizure of more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of a Frankfort man.

State police say Randy D. Kendall Sr., 49, will probably face possession and trafficking charges, and the case will probably be sent to federal court. Kendall was being held at the Franklin County jail. The marijuana has a street value of nearly $2 million.

Kentucky State police and Immigration Customs Enforcement started a joint investigation in late January, according to police reports. Packaged inside of 50-pound bags of barium sulfate, which is used to make plastics and is an agent used to help diagnose certain medical problems, the marijuana was placed on 15 pallets and shipped from Mexico to the port of Charleston, S.C. ICE agents took possession of the shipment at the port and then started a controlled delivery to its intended destination in Kentucky. The shipment was driven from South Carolina to Kentucky in a tractor-trailer. Once the shipment reached Kentucky, state police helped make the delivery to Kendall’s Quik Lube, at 1507 Daniel Drive in Lawrenceburg.

Friday, state police joined federal agents in surveillance at the Quik Lube. On Monday, members of the surveillance team watched the suspects load the marijuana-stuffed packages of barium sulfate onto a flat-bed truck. The suspects moved the pallets from the business to a Franklin County farm at 6505 Flat Creek Road.

The team watched as the marijuana was unloaded into a barn. Law enforcement moved in on the property about 9:30 p.m.

Investigators found 320 bundles of marijuana inside the bags of barium sulfate.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. Other arrests and charges are pending.
