Buddy’s money

Last week I wrote a post about Sen. Lindsey Graham’s incredible $4.74 million cash-on-hand should anyone seriously attempt to oust him as South Carolina’s senior legislator. In a half-hearted attempt to be fair, I found the closest thing I could to a challenger, Buddy Witherspoon, and sent his “campaign” an e-mail asking if they would send me a copy of their 4th quarter 2007 financial report.

Their response was basically a big “screw you” — which is understandable given that they’re a bunch of ornery old hate-mongers that can’t deal with criticism. But fear not, I have obtained the summary report of the “Witherspoon for U.S. Senate” FEC filing (pdf here).

The report, which looks like it was filled out in crayon (could it be that Rick Beltram is now on staff?), shows Witherspoon raised $14,625 last year. He reportedly blew nearly half of that on a one-way ticket to the 1920’s, a 50-foot-high fence around his campaign headquarters to keep out “those damn illegals,” and that amazing advertisement.

Actually, I have no idea what he spent it on, but he now has $8711.61 on hand. By my math puts him $4,731,288.39 behind Graham.

Don’t give up now Buddy, you’re nearly two-tenths of one-percent of the way there!

One thing’s for sure is that Buddy could defeat Lindsey with only 25% of what Lindsey has. Buddy announced that he wouldn’t start campaigning until after the presidential primary. There are a lot of people out there who don’t want Grahamnesty or McCain. Notice that McCain still isn’t breaking 1/3 of the vote anywhere, unless you count 36% in Florida. That means 2 out of 3 Republicans have voted against him. That’s a whole lot worse than he did in 2000.
Once the national conservatives aren’t distracted with the presidential primary any more, it won’t take long for them to zero-in on their second-biggest nemesis. They tried to oust 25-year incumbent Arlen Spector with Pat Toomey a couple of years ago, and they almost did it. That was in Pennsylvania. Lindsey in SC is a much bigger sitting target.

We the Bigots are tired of Lindsey… we do not care how much money he has. Money is not registered to vote. Human beings are. Human beings know Lindsey doesn’t represent South Carolina. And where did all that money come from? I understand most of it is from out of state. Can the Scoop find out who is pushing Lindsey down the throats of South Carolinians???
