
TIME Magazine ran a piece last week on presidential candidate John McCain’s big South Carolina victory and snapped the above photo at the moment the Associated Press declared him the winner of this state’s primary. The look on McCain strategist Trey Walker’s face (left) — one of the masterminds of the successful eight-year campaign to win the Palmetto State — is a good indicator that they were concerned about the Horry County fiasco turning into a Florida 2000 scenario.
Alas, it did not and McCain ended up winning by nearly 15,000 votes. And for Walker, I would imagine this picture is emblematic of the ups-and-downs he’s experienced while being at McCain’s side since 1999.
